Job Description:

The Special Inspector will conduct field inspections and testing of construction materials, including soils and concrete, to verify conformance with construction plans, specifications, and building codes. The role involves interacting daily with owner and contractor teams, preparing reports, and supporting the project’s overall goals. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of construction methods, building terminology, and state and local building codes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform field inspections on active construction sites to verify compliance with project plans and specifications

• Conduct routine laboratory tests, such as compaction curves and concrete compressive strength tests

• Prepare daily reports and data sheets to document inspection results

• Collaborate with project teams to ensure work meets quality standards and resolve any discrepancies

• Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings accurately

• Ensure adherence to state and local building codes, occupational health & safety standards, and industry best practices

• Lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds as required on job sites

• Must be willing to travel throughout San Francisco Bay Area as required for various project sites

Minimum Qualifications:

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification

• ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector certification

• Radiation Safety & Nuclear Density Gauge Operation Training

• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

• Ability to read blueprints and use basic math skills

• General knowledge of MS Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and inspection procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

• ICC Structural Masonry, Structural Steel and Bolting, Structural Welding, Soils, or Spray Applied Fireproofing Inspector certifications

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification

• Willingness to join the Operating Engineers Local 3 Union

• Experience with large-scale infrastructure projects in highway, rail, or water industries
