We are looking for a highly skilled Software Engineer to be part of our expanding team. The right candidate will offer technical leadership, influence architectural choices, and play a significant role in the development of our next-generation products. You should possess in-depth expertise in software design alongside a proven history of tackling complex technical challenges, as well as the ability to mentor and guide engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, implementation, and testing of core features for the open-source Spring Portfolio, focusing on AI capabilities.

• Engage with the open-source community by managing Git

Hub issues, validating contributions, and creating an inclusive environment for contributors at all levels.

• Mentor and coach senior and staff-level engineers, promoting a culture of technical excellence.

• Collaborate with community members, product management, design, and other engineering teams to establish requirements and deliver effective solutions.

• Coordinate with external service providers, including AI vendors such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, Google GenAI, and Azure OpenAI, as well as vector store vendors.

• Drive the continuous enhancement of engineering practices, tools, and processes.

• Participate in high-level architectural evaluations and technology assessments.

• Promote Spring and related products through various marketing activities, which may include writing articles, public speaking, or other engagements.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with a minimum of 8+ years of experience, OR a Master's Degree with a minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience.

• Strong expertise in Java and a solid understanding of Spring fundamentals, including dependency injection, application context, and Spring's programming model.

• Practical experience in developing production applications using the Spring Portfolio.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a systematic approach to complex issues.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience contributing to or managing open-source projects.

• Familiarity with agentic patterns, including tool use, tool calling, multi-step reasoning, and orchestration frameworks.

• Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs), with skills in prompt engineering, context management, and integration methods.

• Knowledge of vector databases and similarity search concepts.

• Experience with application observability tools (Micrometer, Open

Telemetry).

• Experience designing extensible APIs and abstraction layers.

• Familiarity with Langchain4J, Embable, or related Java-based frameworks.

• Experience with AI coding assistants.

• Hands-on experience with Git and CI automation using Git

Hub Actions.

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

The annual base salary range for this position is $108,000 - $172,800. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus as outlined in relevant plan documents and equity compensation in line with equity plans and awards.
