Job Overview
United Airlines is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join the Baggage Platform team within Digital Technology. In this role, you will help shape the next generation of products that power our airline while serving as a critical link between business operations and technology teams. This cross-functional position will own complex end-to-end integration solutions and support data-driven decision-making.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical fluency, sound business acumen, and a passion for aviation.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce functional and non-functional specifications, data mapping documents, and interface control documents for system integrations.
- Lead requirements gathering and translate business needs into detailed functional and non-functional specifications.
- Partner with architects and engineers to assess technical feasibility and identify design trade-offs early in the delivery lifecycle.
- Perform gap analyses between current-state systems and target-state digital solutions; document findings and recommend remediation strategies.
- Develop detailed functional requirements documents (FRDs) and technical design documents (TDDs).
- Facilitate workshops, stakeholder interviews, and design sessions with business owners, UX designers, and engineering leads to align on scope and priorities.
- Manage the product backlog in partnership with Product Managers by refining, prioritizing, and ensuring user stories are sprint-ready.
- Analyze the existing IT landscape including APIs, middleware, databases, and third-party platforms to identify integration requirements and risks.
- Drive user acceptance testing (UAT) planning and execution by writing test scenarios, coordinating business testers, triaging defects, and supporting release readiness sign-off.
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree
- 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst supporting digital products or IT delivery initiatives.
- Expertise in writing user stories and acceptance criteria within Agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban.
- Strong experience in systems integration analysis, including REST APIs, data mapping, event-driven architectures, or similar technologies.
- Hands-on proficiency with project and backlog management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or equivalent platforms.
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in the airline, travel, or transportation industry is preferred.
- Exposure to UX and product design processes, including the ability to annotate wireframes and collaborate using Figma or similar design tools.
- Experience with cloud-native product delivery in AWS and modern engineering practices, including CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Harness, as well as microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with integration and cloud platforms such as Solace and AWS services including ECS, EKS, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
- Knowledge of vulnerability management and secure coding practices, with experience using tools such as SonarQube, Veracode, or Wiz preferred.
The base pay range for this role is $102,220.00 to $133,194.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
