The Opportunity
The Events & Operations Manager will provide effective and efficient planning, management and execution of operational and administrative functions and services for the DMZ.
- Supports the strategic goals and priorities of the DMZ by managing resources in an efficient, innovative and professional manner to ensure the provision of high quality and relevant programs and services for the DMZ and the startup teams.
- Plans and coordinates events, services and tour experiences at the DMZ to ensure cohesion between all three functions. Oversees the provision of the necessary administrative support to the start-up teams that work in the Zone.
Other Responsibilities Will Include But Are Not Limited To
- Manages and coordinates the day-to-day front desk and administrative operations of the DMZ in collaboration with the Director, to ensure that resources are available to appropriately support the DMZ’s objectives and activities.
- Leads the planning and implementation of special services at the DMZ including meetings and events with external and internal stakeholders, sponsors, and industry leaders.
- Reviews and approves all incoming event and space rental requests. Determines the requests’ eligibility based on space availability, required resources, and their relevance to the DMZ objectives and goals.
- Plans all aspects of the DMZ’s annual flagship events, including securing venues, speakers, setting the agenda, sourcing material and stewarding sponsorship as well as conducting post event reviews.
- Assesses other event requests through the lens of organizational priorities and values. Assigns work to the relevant staff members to collect event requirements, plan logistics, and develop agendas and communication strategies for execution with clients in consultation with the Director.
- Leads space improvements, manages space and capital equipment inventory and coordinates with other university departments relative to renovations, security of space, and emergency responses etc., ensuring compliance with university and legislative regulations. Monitor budget related to improvement projects, supplies and equipment inventory and other resources required.
- Actively participates in the annual planning of activities and initiatives of the DMZ, together with the DMZ management team. Provides input into the strategic planning process and execution of approved plans in the Zone as it relates to operations and administrative services and support.

Qualifications
To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:
- Completion of a post secondary degree, preferably in a business-related discipline
- At least 4 to 5 years of directly related work experience in financial and human resources management, general administration of operations, office management, organization of events, project coordination and support.
- Strong event management and project management experience and skills
- Demonstrated experience applying the values of equity and inclusion by working with, supporting and/or effectively engaging with diverse populations.
- Strong people management and supervisory skills
- Excellent client service skills, people management skills and negotiation skills;
- Strong organizational and time management skills;
- Problem solving, decision making skills.
- Demonstrated experience with project management practices and techniques (defining scope, timelines, deliverables, facilitating resources, reporting, anticipating issues and risks), including experience in implementing industry business systems to ensure project deliverables are achieved on time, within budget and to specifications.
- Strong team management to facilitate client-team meetings, to oversee and supervise project staff and their activities, including hiring, training, determining priorities and deliverables, set performance standards and identify training needs.
- Strong analytical skills to identify issues, trends, opportunities and financial analysis skills to support project updates.
- Solid oral and written communication skills for report/proposal writing, ensure sufficient documentation, prepare financial reports.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, identify trends, issues, developments, partners and collaborators.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to participate in events that support participating companies.
