Associate Frontend Engineer

We are supporting a Chicago-based financial advisory partner as they build out their digital client interfaces. At JHC Consulting, we provide independent, rigorous counsel to boards and chief executives. For this specific engagement, we are adding an Associate Frontend Engineer to our team.

In this role, you will help design and implement the user interfaces that clearly present our structured reports, data models, and analytical tools to executive decision-makers. You will work closely with our advisors to ensure that the precision of our written words is matched by the clarity and utility of the software interfaces we build.

The role

As an Associate Frontend Engineer, your daily work will bridge technical execution and structured communication. You will write clean, well-tested code in React and TypeScript to build interface components. You will not simply be implementing features from a design file.

Instead, you will read our analytical briefs, participate in partner technical discussions, and translate complex datasets into legible, interactive tables, charts, and text displays. A typical week involves refactoring existing UI components for clarity, writing unit tests, and drafting technical documentation that explains your engineering choices.

Because we value written communication, you will spend a regular portion of your time technical writing, explaining the logic behind the code you ship.

What you bring

• We are looking for an early-career engineer who values precision, intellectual clarity, and draft-oriented discipline.
• While this is an entry-level position, we expect a high degree of maturity and self-direction.
• You should have a functional understanding of modern JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and at least one component-based framework, with React being our standard.
• You do not need years of professional experience, but you must be able to demonstrate clean coding practices through personal projects, coursework, or internship work.
• Most importantly, you must be a clear and capable writer.
• We believe that clear writing is the foundation of clear thinking, and this applies directly to both our technical documentation and our code.
• You should be comfortable explaining technical topics in plain, structured English.

• Instead, we write detailed technical proposals and perform thorough asynchronous code reviews.
• Every line of code, like every line of our advisory briefs, is held to a high standard of individual accountability because the author's name is attached to the work.

We operate on a hybrid model for this specific engagement, combining independent remote work with regular, scheduled in-person collaboration at our Chicago-based partner's office.
