We are an innovative AI startup dedicated to developing AI customer-service agents capable of engaging with customers via phone, chat, or messaging platforms with human-like interaction. We are on the lookout for a Senior Python Backend Developer to play a crucial role in shaping the technical landscape of our backend systems.

In this role, you'll take ownership of complex projects, make architectural decisions that influence our entire platform, and elevate engineering standards across the team. This position is perfect for candidates who are eager to build and innovate rather than just offer advice. You'll not only write code and manage systems but will also proactively identify future projects and the methods to realize them.

Requirements

• STEM degree from a prestigious university globally
• 7 - 15 years of experience in backend/infrastructure engineering, particularly with Python and distributed systems
• Expertise in system design for scalable and reliable backend platforms
• Experience in high-growth SaaS startups or top-tier technology companies
• Proven track record of independently driving initiatives from inception to completion
• Active user of AI coding tools (such as Curs or Claude)
• On-site presence required 5 days a week in San Francisco; candidates must already reside locally.

Your Responsibilities

• Design the evolution of our agent infrastructure to support scaling while balancing speed, reliability, and complexity
• Take ownership of the most challenging and high-impact projects, where missteps could significantly affect the business
• Proactively identify potential gaps in our systems and advocate for necessary improvements
• Establish standards for code reviews, system design, and operational excellence through exemplary personal contributions
