Position Summary
EASL is the champions league of professional basketball in East Asia. It is Where Champions Clash and the top teams across the region match up to determine the best of the best. The qualifying EASL participants are the best teams from the top basketball leagues in Chinese Taipei, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Mongolia and Macau.
Having completed three seasons with an expanding number of teams each season, the upcoming 26-27 season features an expanded 48-game Group Stage held from October to March, with six games (three home, three away) for each of the 16 teams. The winningest teams in the Group Stage qualify for the Playoffs games in March, which crowns the champion of East Asia.
EASL is organized under an exclusive agreement with FIBA, the international basketball federation. At EASL, we are more than just a league; we are a movement driven by love for the game, a deep respect for its cultural significance, and belief in the future of Asian basketball.
We are searching for a VP & Head of Marketing who shares this passion, a visionary leader that understands its power to unite and inspire, and has the desire to tell authentic stories that continue to grow the game of basketball in Asia. And, someone who can lead the development, execution, and management of a holistic marketing strategy.
This executive will be responsible for elevating EASL’s brand and corporate profile through integrated marketing initiatives spanning brand management, digital and social media, content creation, story telling, event marketing, fan engagement, sponsorship activation, and market research.
The role will oversee all marketing functions, ensuring strategic alignment with organizational objectives and maximizing EASL’s presence in core markets—Greater China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, and the Philippines—as well as secondary markets throughout Asia-Pacific and global audiences. Experience with corporate communications, public relations and media relations is a bonus.
Responsibilities include
- Primary responsibility for EASL’s creative insights and marketing campaigns across all facets of the sports marketing and media landscape.
- Brand, digital marketing and content creation; managing internal teams and third parties as needed to execute at optimal effectiveness.
- Leadership of the central marketing and communications function in building comprehensive marketing and communications plans and materials.
- Develop and implement innovative marketing strategies that captivate Asian audiences and showcase the richness of Asian basketball culture.
- Manage, mentor and lead a regional marketing team, coordinating their efforts to execute campaigns across digital, content, and traditional media platforms.
- Oversee creative, and design resources, both internal and external.
- Build authentic relationships with media, partners, and community organizations to amplify the league's presence across Asia and beyond.
- Coordinate PR campaigns, creative, and design resources, whether internal or external.
- Optimization of EASL’s own digital media, including website and all social media platforms.
- Develop brand guidelines and ensure consistent application across all IP.Oversight of an updated EASL Brand Handbook including style guides.
- Collaboration with local stakeholders on planning and execution, ensuring they have a comprehensive understanding of the key messages and strategic plan for the region.
- Management of marketing budgets to ensure cost effectiveness.
- Oversight of third-party vendors, for example, for content, production or media buys.
- Ownership of all published material and accountability for final copy.
- Reporting on marketing activities to key stakeholders, media or business partners.
- Management of key social media relationships.
- Manage research tools and data to benchmark market performance, including media exposure, brand awareness, and fan following.
Qualifications include
- At least 8 years management experience in the marketing of sports and/or entertainment properties in major markets of East Asia (Greater China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia).
- Proven experience and expertise in all aspects of digital and social media marketing.
- Track record of telling authentic stories that resonate with communities, fans and sponsorship partners where these narratives inspire and engage diverse audiences.
- Passion for basketball and deep cultural understanding of the region.
- Proven experience in sports marketing and/or entertainment
- A track record of building brands that emotionally connect with diverse audiences.
- Keen sense of branding and design for a consumer-facing brand, preferably sports-related.
- Leadership skills, with the ability to build and manage a young but effective team.
- Proven success working as a senior manager and team player in a matrixed organization, able to both influence and support stakeholders across the organization.
- Entrepreneurial spirit, drive, self-initiative and ability to work independently as needed.
- Languages: fluency in English and at least one other major East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean).
