Job Description
The City of Napervilles Electric Utility is currently seeking anOperational Technology (OT) Security Engineer to provide networksecurity for the defense and lifecycle operations of critical assetswithin a complex, blended, IT and OT environment for the Citys ElectricUtility.
The OT Security Engineer is primarily responsible for the design,deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of security controls across IT,Smart Grid, and OT infrastructure within the Citys Electric Utility.
This role supports the secure operation of critical systems byimplementing and maintaining network security monitoring, vulnerabilitymanagement, asset management, intrusion detection/prevention systems(IDS/IPS), incident response capabilities, security operations, andremediation programs tailored to a converged IT/OT environment.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $94,971.26$104,468.39 per year, commensurate with credentials and experience. ThePay Grade for this position is E250. For additional information,please** clickhere.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the installation, maintenance, monitoring, andtroubleshooting of network security infrastructure, such as firewalls,intrusion detection/prevention systems, and secure connectivitysolutions.
- Implements best practices in compliance with NERC/CIP, where applicable.
- Monitors security advisories and supports the application of requiredsecurity updates, patches, and preventative measures across networkedsystems.
- Uses security and diagnostic tools to conduct basic testing of services,devices, and network components to validate proper operation of patchesand implemented controls.
- Reviews audit logs to identify potential security threats and assist inmaintaining network monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and intrusiondetection programs.
- Supports sustainable encryption, remote access, and secure communicationstrategies for internal users and systems.
- Collaborates with Network Security Engineers and the broader IT team onprojects involving system integration, monitoring enhancements, anddefense-in-depth improvements.
- Assists in preparing procedures, technical documentation, diagrams, andreports to document security activities and provide reference materials.
- Helps train technical support staff on security policies, procedures,and best practices.
- Stays informed on industry trends, technologies, and emerging threats tosupport continuous improvement of the organizations security posture.
- Provides backup support to Network Security Engineers and System
- Administrators, assuming administrative responsibilities as assigned.
- Assists in resolving escalated end-user issues and support generaltechnical troubleshooting as needed.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- QualificationsRequiredA Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related field.3-years of professional experience in the network security orcybersecurity fields.
- Demonstratable experience in the cybersecurity, network security,information security analysis, or cyber security fields.
- Valid Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Sec) or Comp
- TIASecurity+ certification, or t e ability to obtain one of thesecertifications within twelve (12) months of hire.A valid State of Illinois drivers license.<
