GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This position is crucial for ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of essential healthcare IT systems in the Environment of Care (EOC). You will play a key role in maintaining seamless access to services for patients, providers, and the community. This role requires you to proactively identify and address potential disruptions, ensuring the highest standards of care and operational efficiency. Combining software engineering, clinical engineering, and security principles, you will support clinical workflows and continuity of hospital operations.

You will collaborate with AHN site leaders and teams to monitor and support building automation and facility systems, clinical engineering/IOT, healthcare technology architecture, and cybersecurity. You will foster a culture of automation, continuous improvement, collaboration, and patient safety while developing core metrics that ensure system health for SRE practitioners.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead management functions: hiring, coaching, performance management, and team productivity. Organize and oversee daily operations, implementing necessary policies and managing departmental budget responsibilities. (25%)

  • Establish partnerships with clinical engineering, cybersecurity, device manufacturers, suppliers, and IT experts to manage and secure various clinical devices, ensuring HIPAA compliance and staying current on healthcare IT trends. Automate monitoring tasks to enhance efficiency and identify vulnerabilities in clinical devices and systems. (15%)

  • Collaborate with Clinical Engineering and Cybersecurity teams to troubleshoot medical equipment issues. Participate in the lifecycle management of medical devices, maintaining detailed documentation, and providing guidance on analyzing complex problems. (15%)

  • Optimize the performance of building automation systems (e.g., HVAC, lighting) in partnership with facility leaders, implementing improvements and ensuring security of these systems. (15%)

  • Coordinate with IT teams for effective management of system migrations and disaster recovery exercises. Lead post-incident reviews and ensure emergency operations plans are up to date. (15%)

  • Define metrics for monitoring system health and lead knowledge sharing initiatives. Provide mentorship to junior team members, and maintain current knowledge of site reliability engineering technologies and best practices. (10%)

  • Perform other related duties as assigned. (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years in a management or leadership role.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, IT, or related field.

  • 5 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Systems Administration, or Dev

Ops, particularly in healthcare IT.

  • 5 years of experience in the medical device management lifecycle, including network/device segmentation and vulnerability management.

  • 5 years of healthcare IT experience covering various areas such as security, automation, and system development lifecycle.

  • 3 years of experience in highly regulated environments.

  • A history of progressive leadership roles in clinical engineering, IT, or related disciplines.

SKILLS:

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to make strategic decisions.

  • Effective team collaboration across multiple locations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness to engage in activities that may occur outside of regular working hours.

  • Proven leadership capabilities with a focus on project planning and results-oriented delivery.

  • Understanding of security best practices in a healthcare IT setting.

  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects and coordinating resources effectively.

  • Strong relationship-building skills capable of influencing within a matrixed organization.
