Guide

What is an ATS Optimizer (Resume & CV Checker)?

An ATS optimizer scans your resume - or CV - against a specific job description and scores how well an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) will parse, read, and rank it. Because an estimated 99% of Fortune 500 companies filter applications through an ATS before a human sees them, a resume that misses the role’s keywords or uses a layout the parser can’t read is often rejected automatically - no matter how qualified you are.

Recruit Myself’s ATS Optimizer compares your CV to the target job across keyword match, hard and soft skills, formatting, and structure, then returns an instant 0–100 ATS compatibility score with the exact gaps to fix. Your first scan is free, no credit card required. Because the score measures one resume against one posting, the same CV scores differently on different jobs, and the report names each missing keyword and parsing problem so you know what to change before you re-scan.

The biggest reason qualified people get auto-rejected is not weak experience - it is a keyword and formatting mismatch the applicant never sees. The checks below are exactly what the optimizer evaluates, so you know what it is grading before you upload.

Step by step

How it works

1Paste or upload your resume (PDF, DOCX, or TXT) and the job description you’re targeting.
2Get an instant 0–100 ATS score with a keyword gap analysis - the exact skills and terms the job wants that your resume is missing.
3Accept AI-written, keyword-aligned bullet rewrites in one click to close the gaps.
4Re-scan to confirm the lift, then export your optimized resume and apply.

Scoring

What the score checks

Keyword & phrase match

Compares your resume against the exact job description and flags the must-have keywords, titles, and phrases the role uses that your resume is missing - the single biggest driver of your ATS score.

Hard skills coverage

Identifies the technical skills, tools, and certifications named in the posting that don’t yet appear on your resume, so you can add the ones you genuinely have.

Soft skills & responsibilities

Checks the competencies and responsibilities the job description emphasises so your bullets mirror what the employer is actually screening for.

Formatting & parseability

Verifies a single-column, parser-clean layout with standard headings - no tables, text boxes, multi-column blocks, or images that cause an ATS to drop or scramble your content.

Section structure & dates

Confirms the standard sections (Experience, Skills, Education) are present, in an ATS-readable order, with parseable Month-Year dates on every role.

Title & seniority alignment

Looks at whether your headline and recent titles line up with the target role, so the ATS ranks you for the right requisition rather than filtering you out.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the ATS Optimizer free?

Yes - your first scan is free, no credit card required. Sign up to unlock unlimited scans, AI keyword rewrites, and the full gap report.

Is a CV the same as a resume?

For job applications, yes - a CV and a resume are the same one-to-two-page document. “Resume” is the usual term in the US and Canada, while “CV” is standard in the UK, the Gulf, India, and most of the world. The ATS Optimizer scores it the same either way: upload a resume or a CV and it checks how an Applicant Tracking System will read and rank it. (An academic CV - a longer list of publications and research - is the one exception.)

How does the ATS score work?

We compare your resume against the target job description across keyword match, hard and soft skills, formatting, and structure, then return a 0–100 ATS compatibility score with the exact gaps to fix.

What is a good ATS score?

Aim for 80 or above. The score is a match between one resume and one job description, so the same resume scores differently against different postings - there is no single number that is “good” everywhere. The optimizer compares your resume to the posting you paste in across keyword and phrase match, hard skills, soft skills and responsibilities, formatting and parseability, section structure and dates, and title and seniority alignment. It then lists every must-have keyword, skill, and title the posting uses that your resume does not contain, plus any layout element (tables, text boxes, multi-column blocks, images, non-standard headings) that stops a parser reading your content. Work through those flagged gaps and re-scan to see the new score.

Does it rewrite my resume?

Yes. Beyond scoring, it suggests AI-written, keyword-aligned bullet points you can accept in one click, then re-scan to confirm the improvement.

Does the ATS Optimizer work for Dubai and UAE jobs?

Yes. It scores your CV against the same Applicant Tracking Systems UAE employers use - Workday, Taleo, and the parsers behind Bayt, Naukrigulf, and LinkedIn MENA. For a Dubai/UAE-specific checker with Gulf CV guidance (the photo, nationality, and visa-status fields that can break ATS parsing), use our free ATS resume checker for Dubai & the UAE.

What file types can I upload?

PDF, DOCX, and TXT, up to 10MB.
