Role Overview:
As a Sr. Engineering Manager on the Data Platform team at Target, you will lead a team of engineers to build and operate foundational data platform capabilities. Your role will involve blending people leadership, delivery accountability, and strong technical judgment to ensure scalable, reliable platform solutions aligned with Targets data strategy. You will collaborate with Principal Engineers, Product Managers, and other leaders to translate platform vision into execution and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers to create an inclusive environment for growth and productivity.
- Own delivery and execution for key data management and governance platform capabilities, ensuring predictable outcomes and high engineering quality.
- Partner with Product Management to define roadmaps, priorities, and success metrics aligning platform investments with business needs.
- Collaborate with Principal Engineers to translate architectural vision into actionable plans and well-executed designs.
- Drive strong engineering practices including design reviews, code quality, operational readiness, and incident management.
- Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform health, scalability, and reliability.
- Act as a key cross-team partner, coordinating dependencies and influencing stakeholders across data, engineering, and security organizations.
- Continuously improve team processes, delivery velocity, and operational maturity.
Qualifications Required:
- Experience managing and developing software engineering teams in a platform or infrastructure environment.
- Strong technical background with hands-on experience in building or supporting large-scale data platforms or distributed systems.
- Working knowledge of data management and governance concepts including metadata, data quality, lineage, and observability.
- Proven ability to deliver complex technical initiatives in partnership with product and architecture leadership.
- Experience operating in an agile environment and leading teams through ambiguity and change.
