Job Description

If you think like a systems engineer, communicate like a product manager, and test like an adversary then this is your opportunity.

OVEX is building the future of how money moves across Africa. We are the continent's institutional foreign exchange and cross-border payments infrastructure - providing wholesale FX execution and settlement to banks, fintechs, and corporates with deep liquidity, local currency credit lines, and real-time trading capabilities.

Our platform supports everything from instant crypto conversions and high-volume OTC trading to international remittances and enterprise API integrations. With offices across five global cities and regulatory licenses spanning five jurisdictions, OVEX operates at the intersection of African finance and global markets. Built on institutional-grade security infrastructure, we are the trusted partner for the institutions that move Africa's money.

OVEX FAST-FACTS:

  • Africa's most robust on and off-ramp ecosystem for local currencies, enabling seamless conversion and settlement across the continent

  • Proprietary payment rails settling cross-border transactions in hours, not days — eliminating the friction of traditional correspondent banking

  • Deep liquidity pools and direct banking relationships delivering tight spreads and institutional-grade execution at scale

  • Trusted by banks, fintechs, corporates, and financial intermediaries across Africa — billions in FX volume processed

  • Offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, London, Paris, and Dubai

  • Regulated across five global jurisdictions: FCA, FSCA, AMF, VARA, and DMCC

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own end-to-end testing of OVEX platform features, ensuring shipped behaviour matches the original product specification across the trading platform, pricing engine, payment flows, and integrations

  • Partner with Product to translate specifications into comprehensive test plans, raising ambiguities, edge cases, and unintended interactions before development begins

  • Develop and maintain a deep working knowledge of how OVEX is used by both internal teams (operations, treasury, compliance) and external clients (institutional traders, OTC counterparties, API integrators), and use that understanding to inform test coverage and risk assessment

  • Assess and communicate the impact of feature changes, refactors, and infrastructure work on existing product behaviour — flagging regression risk and downstream effects across the platform

  • Execute manual and exploratory testing across web, API, and back-office surfaces, including realistic end-to-end scenarios spanning trading, settlement, deposits, withdrawals, and reconciliation

  • Investigate issues directly using SQL queries against production and staging databases, log analysis across services, and API-level debugging using tools such as Postman or equivalent

  • Author and maintain technical documentation including test plans, runbooks, regression suites, and release notes

  • Coordinate release validation across environments and sign off on releases against agreed acceptance criteria

  • Contribute to test automation strategy, particularly for high-value end-to-end and integration scenarios

  • Support compliance and audit requirements by ensuring traceability between specifications, test evidence, and production behaviour

THE IDEAL 'OVEXIAN' FOR THIS ROLE WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience

  • 5+ years of QA experience with a demonstrated focus on systems-level, integration, and end-to-end testing — not purely UI or component-level

  • Strong working knowledge of SQL, including the ability to write non-trivial queries against relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) to investigate state, validate behaviour, and reproduce issues

  • Proficiency reading and reasoning about application logs across distributed systems, including the ability to follow a transaction across multiple services

  • Hands-on experience testing REST APIs using Postman, Insomnia, curl, or equivalent — including familiarity with authentication flows, request signing, and webhook validation

  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience producing clear test plans, defect reports, runbooks, and release notes

  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with Product Managers to refine specifications, identify edge cases, and translate business requirements into testable acceptance criteria

  • Experience testing complex business workflows where correctness depends on state, sequencing, and external system behaviour

  • Excellent communication skills - able to articulate technical issues to engineers and product implications to non-technical stakeholders

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in fintech, cryptocurrency, trading platforms, or other regulated financial services environments

  • Familiarity with crypto exchange concepts including order books, matching engines, settlement, custody, deposits/withdrawals, and reconciliation

  • Exposure to web3 and blockchain concepts (wallets, on-chain transactions, smart contracts, gas, network confirmations) sufficient to test crypto deposit, withdrawal, and custody flows end-to-end

  • Experience with test automation frameworks for API and end-to-end testing (e.g. Playwright, Cypress, pytest, Postman/Newman collections)

  • Exposure to Python and/or Ruby codebases sufficient to read source and understand intended behaviour

  • Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and modern release practices

  • Understanding of compliance, audit, and regulatory considerations in a financial services context

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • High-impact ownership of product quality across a regulated, institutional-grade platform — with direct visibility to engineering and product leadership

  • Full breadth of exposure across crypto, fintech, and cross-border payments at institutional scale

  • Genuine mentorship and direct access to leadership — we are committed to your professional and personal development

  • A team that becomes friends — regular events, a collaborative culture, and colleagues worth keeping

  • Daily lunch served at the office

  • Global exposure working alongside a diverse team across five cities on something that genuinely matters

African cross-border payments are broken. We're fixing the infrastructure beneath them. The quality of what we ship matters. That's where you come in. Want in?
