Network Engineer II
Pay Range: $55/hour to $58/hour
Job Summary
The Network Engineer II is responsible for planning, implementing, and supporting secure, high-availability network infrastructure in a healthcare environment. This role ensures reliable connectivity for clinical and business systems, including electronic health records (EHR), medical devices, and critical applications. The engineer independently resolves complex issues, supports regulatory compliance requirements, and contributes to the delivery of resilient, scalable network solutions that support patient care operations.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and support network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, and wireless environments in clinical and administrative settings
Ensure high availability and performance of networks supporting EHR systems, medical devices, and healthcare applications
Monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot network performance, capacity, and reliability issues; implement corrective actions
Support and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for critical healthcare systems
Install, configure, and maintain network hardware, circuits, and structured cabling in hospital/clinical environments
Collaborate with clinical, biomedical, and IT teams to support connected medical technologies and ensure network compatibility
Implement network security controls aligned with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) and organizational policies
Work with telecommunications vendors and service providers to provision and maintain WAN circuits and services
Provide on-call support and respond to network incidents impacting patient care and operational continuity
Document network configurations, procedures, and environment details to support audits and compliance requirements
Assist in evaluating and integrating new healthcare technologies and network solutions
Mentor junior staff and provide guidance on standard troubleshooting and operational procedures
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including clinicians and administrative staff, to resolve technical issues
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field
Equivalent experience (e.g., 9+ years in IT/network engineering) may be considered in lieu of a degree
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in network engineering or IT infrastructure support
Experience supporting networks in healthcare, hospital, or regulated environments preferred
Technical Skills:
Hands-on experience with network design, installation, and support in enterprise environments
Proficiency with Cisco and/or Juniper networking equipment
Experience with network monitoring and performance tools (e.g., Solar
Winds)
Knowledge of WAN technologies, circuits, and structured cabling systems
Understanding of network security practices, including segmentation, access control, and secure configurations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting EHR platforms and clinical applications
Familiarity with medical device connectivity and biomedical network requirements
Knowledge of healthcare compliance and regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH)
Experience with high availability architectures and disaster recovery planning
Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, JNCIP)
Additional Information
Role may require after-hours and on-call support in a 24/7 healthcare environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in patient-care-focused settings are essential
