Job Description

Our client, a major telecommunications provider, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Telecommunications Network Engineer to join their growing team. This position is based at our cutting-edge facility in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of complex telecommunications networks, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. You will work with a variety of technologies, including fiber optics, wireless (4G/5G), IP networking, and VoIP. This role involves troubleshooting intricate network issues, conducting performance analysis, and developing strategic plans for network expansion and upgrades. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, IT, and product development, to deliver robust and reliable network services to our customers. The Senior Telecommunications Network Engineer will play a key role in evaluating new network technologies, recommending solutions, and ensuring the network infrastructure supports current and future business needs. This includes managing network devices, configuring routers and switches, and implementing network security protocols. A deep understanding of network protocols, routing, switching, and network management systems is essential. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and demanding environment. You will also be involved in capacity planning, disaster recovery planning, and contributing to the overall network architecture strategy. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional to make a significant impact on the evolution of our network infrastructure. Some on-call duties and occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and maintain robust telecommunications networks. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal uptime and efficiency. Configure and manage network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls. Develop and execute network upgrade and expansion plans. Collaborate with other engineering teams on network integration and deployment. Perform network capacity planning and resource management. Implement and maintain network security measures and best practices. Evaluate and recommend new network technologies and solutions. Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 network support.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of experience in telecommunications network engineering. Proven experience with IP networking, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and other routing protocols. Hands-on experience with fiber optic and wireless (4G/5G) network technologies. Familiarity with VoIP systems and protocols. Experience with network monitoring and management tools. Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIS) are an asset.
