Introduction
We're hiring! Safran Electronics and Defense are looking for a dynamic IT professional to join our IT team based in Canelands, Verulam! The IT Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and maintenance of the Safran network infrastructure together with the Network specialist at Safran France. The role ensures high availability, performance, and security of LAN, WAN, WLAN, and internet connectivity while supporting business operations and compliance requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems together with Safran Specialist.
Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity; proactively identify and resolve issues
Implement and manage network security controls such as firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and access control
Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents and outages in line with SLA requirements
Support LAN/WAN, MPLS, VLANs, and IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6)
Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards
Apply updates, patches, and firmware upgrades to network devices
Collaborate with system, security, and application teams to support business systems
Ensure compliance with internal IT policies, cybersecurity standards, and regulatory requirements
Participate in network projects, upgrades, and technology refresh initiatives
Provide second- and third-line support and on-call assistance when required
Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning for network services
Setting up and configuring computers, printers and other network equipment on the network
Network related problems on computers and equipment
Desired Experience & Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
3–7+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering or network support
Relevant certifications advantage:
CCNA / CCNP
Network+
Fortinet NSE / Aruba / Juniper certifications
Experience in regulated, industrial, or high-availability environments is a plus.
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VLANs, routing, and switching
Experience with enterprise networking equipment (e.g. Cisco, HP Aruba, Fortinet, Juniper)
Solid understanding of firewalls, VPNs (IPSec/SSL), and network segmentation
Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (SNMP, Wireshark, Solar
Winds, PRTG, etc.)
Ability to analyze complex problems and implement effective solutions
Strong documentation and communication skills
High attention to detail and strong security mindset
