Overview

This Field Service Technician Co‑Op will support the Mid Atlantic Field Service Operations Team located in Beltsville, MD and offers a hands‑on opportunity to work with skilled technical leaders. You will apply academic learning in a professional setting and contribute directly to mission‑critical field activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support on specialized telecommunications systems and public safety product applications.
- Demonstrate aptitude for networking and/or radio frequency (RF) while maintaining and documenting complex communications systems.
- Produce weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
- Develop solutions to technical problems encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support issues.
- Participate in continuous training on the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
- Work in high‑security environments as required by government contracts.
Systems, Equipment, and Technical Experience
- Motorola Base Stations (GTR series, Quantar, etc.)
- Consoles (MCC7500E and MCC7500)
- Computer IP networks and configuration (LAN/WAN)
- RF infrastructure technologies including Motorola SmartZone, SmartNet, console systems, ASTRO Conventional and Trunked equipment
- Secure operations and ASTRO A7.x, A20.x, digital systems and installation procedures
- Communications test equipment such as communication system analyzers, Ethernet link test sets, and digital RF power meters
- Motorola conventional, SmartNet and MCC console systems
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
- Current student enrolled in a 2‑year or 4‑year college, university, or technical school (preference given to Prince George’s Community College students).
- Actively pursuing certifications such as Security+, Network+, CCNA, or NRS1.
- Familiarity with wired communications systems, computer network installation/configuration/maintenance (cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, bridges).
- Familiarity with RF interfaces and systems (transmitters, receivers, antenna networks), standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, packet switching techniques, and logging/recording systems.
Requirements and Logistics
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
- Must pass a stringent fingerprint background check governed by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy.
- Must possess a current and valid driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
- Travel requirements: under 10%.
- Relocation provided: none.

Compensation
- Target Base Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000 USD
Pay within this range varies and depends on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
