About the roleThe IT Infrastructure Technician will support the IT Manager in delivering technical projects, act as the escalation point for complex technical issues, and ensure the stability and security of the company’s IT infrastructure. This role also provides coverage for the IT Technician during periods of absence.
Job Title: IT Infrastructure TechnicianLocation: Newcastle upon Tyne – city centreContract Type: Full Time, Permanent (37 hours per week)Reports to: IT ManagerKey tasks and responsibilities:
Project Support: Assist the IT Manager with planning and implementing technical projects, including infrastructure upgrades, system integrations, and security enhancements.
Escalation Point: Handle complex technical issues escalated by the IT Technician, ensuring timely resolution. Infrastructure Management: Maintain and monitor network infrastructure, servers, and storage systems.
Apply patches and updates to ensure compliance and security.
Review and document network topology and end-of-life hardware/software.
Holiday Coverage: Provide day-to-day IT support when the IT Technician is on leave.
Security & Access Management: Support initiatives such as Single Sign-On (SSO) implementation and enforce security best practices.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of infrastructure configurations, policies, and procedures.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for system optimisation and feedback to the IT Manager. About youTo be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following selection criteria: Essential experience and educationStrong experience in infrastructure support and network administration.
Proficiency in Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365.
Knowledge of networking (LAN/WAN, VPN, firewalls) and security protocols.
Experience with patch management and system hardening.
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide solutions.
Excellent organisational and communication skills. Preferred knowledge and skillsExperience with SSO solutionsFamiliarity with cloud platformsExposure to ITSM tools (e.g., Freshservice).
Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and testing.
