Scope of WorkPerforms work that involves visual inspection of predefined construction areas and reading and interpretation of utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, while using special electronic equipment to actually detect and locate sanitary sewer, effluent irrigation, raw and potable water lines.
Essential Job DutiesUse lap-top computer or other devices to receive, document and close out excavation notices, both during normal hours and after hours.
Read and interpret utility maps / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
Mark the location of underground City of Midland Utilities on roadways, private property and other locations as needed using required spray paints, flags and other equipmentUse assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities.
Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark under-ground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits.
Drive extensively and get in-and-out of vehicle repeatedly, walk several miles per dayPerform light excavation with a shovel, to expose buried utilities when necessary.
Complete and Document work activities using a laptop computer and transmit completed tickets on a timely basisReceive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements.
Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearancePerform work in all weather conditions, during normal and after hours.
Weekend work and night work may be requiredPerforms other duties as assigned.
Physical and Environmental ConditionsEmployee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while operating equipment or completing projects. Ability to climb, bend and lift materials or equipment. May be exposed to potentially hazardous fumes and odors and mechanical and chemical hazards while completing tasks. Must be able to be on call in case of emergencies or incidents. Ability to work with little to no supervision.
Required QualificationsAbility to effectively verbally and orally communicate with other employees and supervisors on a daily basis. High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Texas driver's license required.
