An Office Services Assistant performs general office work, which may include customer service, basic word processing, data entry, filing and organizing, and related work.
Office Services Assistants are hired in-lieu of Administrative Clerks. Employment as an Office Services Assistant is intended to develop skills necessary for regular full-time employment with the City as an Administrative Clerk. Upon successful completion of probation, Office Services Assistants will be offered transfers under Charter Section 1014 to Administrative Clerk.
The Office Services Assistant class will be utilized for the duration of official City of Los Angeles employment programs solely as a vehicle to transition program participants to full-time regular employment as an Administrative Clerk.
PROCESS NOTEThe positions of Office Services Assistant in the department of Aging, Los Angeles World Airports (Airports), Animal Services, Building and Safety, Cannabis, Civil + Human Rights and Equity, Cultural Affairs, Economic and Workforce Development, Fire, General Services, Harbor (Port of Los Angeles), Housing, Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System, Fire and Police Pensions, Personnel, Planning, Public Works – Bureau of Contract Administration, Public Works - Bureau of Engineering, Public Works - Bureau of Sanitation, Public Works - Bureau of Street Lighting, Public Works - Bureau of Street Services, and Recreation and Parks require a valid Class C license issued by California's Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment. Candidates will not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI.

The examination will be based entirely on a Program Performance Review. Candidates will be rated by one or more first and second-level supervisors who are familiar with their performance in the on-the-job training phase of the Targeted Local Hire Program. In the Program Performance Review, the following competencies may be evaluated: Judgment and Decision Making; Attention to Detail; Computer Proficiency; Customer Service; Teamwork; Follow Oral Directions; Follow Written Directions; Oral Communication; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Factors such as the quality and quantity of work performed may also be considered.
