Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This fully remote position supports the day-to-day accounting operations of a U.S.-based construction company.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting fundamentals, excellent English communication skills, and experience working with U.S. companies or U.S. GAAP. Experience in construction accounting is a plus but not required.
The Staff Accountant will assist with month-end close, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, and other general accounting functions while collaborating closely with the Controller and accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Review and analyze financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
- Support preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices and ensure proper coding and approvals.
- Assist with customer invoicing and collections activities.
- Reconcile vendor and customer accounts.
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on outstanding balances.Construction Accounting Support
- Assist with project/job cost tracking and reporting.
- Review project expenses and cost allocations.
- Support contract billing and retainage tracking.
- Assist in preparing Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
- Support project managers with financial information and reporting requests.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
- Assist with audit preparation and year-end reporting.
- Support sales tax and other regulatory filings as needed.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiency.
- Assist with ERP and accounting software maintenance.
- Participate in special projects assigned by management.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and dedicated workspace.
- Availability to work during U.S. business hours (Central or Pacific Time preferred).
Preferred
- Experience working for a U.S.-based company.
- Familiarity with U.S. GAAP.
- Construction industry accounting experience.
- Experience with ERP/accounting software such as QuickBooks, Viewpoint Vista, or similar platforms.
- Experience with billings, job costing, and project accounting.
