Job Description

The Travel Mechanical Assembler installs, assembles, and tests mechanical and electrical components on an automated assembly line, with a focus on front wheel, suspension, and brake systems. This role works with robotic arms, torque tools, and various hand and power tools to build and verify complex mechanical assemblies in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

The position requires frequent travel and offers a per diem opportunity while working onsite at a manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components on an automated assembly line, including front wheel assemblies, suspension assemblies, and brake systems.
• Perform robotic arm assembly operations and ensure proper setup, alignment, and function of robotic equipment during production.
• Use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized torque equipment to assemble and secure components according to specifications.
• Assemble front wheel suspension and front suspension wheel systems, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and functionality.
• Build and install hoof style brake assemblies and front wheel brake systems, following detailed assembly procedures and safety standards.
• Interpret and follow blueprints, assembly drawings, and work instructions to complete mechanical assembly tasks accurately.
• Operate lifting devices and cranes to move, position, and secure heavy components and assemblies safely.
• Use gauges and measuring devices to verify dimensions, tolerances, and alignment of assembled components.
• Perform electrical testing using electrical testing equipment to verify proper operation of assembled systems as required.
• Inspect completed assemblies for quality, functionality, and adherence to specifications, and make adjustments or corrections as needed.
• Work efficiently on an assembly line to meet production targets and maintain consistent output and quality.
• Follow all safety procedures while operating tools, lifting devices, cranes, and robotic equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Participate in training on first shift and then transition to second or third shift, maintaining flexibility for overtime and weekend work as required.
• Support continuous operation during peak periods, including working through holidays when work is available and the plant remains open.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical components, including front wheel assemblies, suspension systems, and brake systems.
• Demonstrated ability to perform robotic arm assembly and work with automated assembly line equipment.
• Crane and hoist experience, including safe operation of lifting devices and cranes.
• Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and torque tools for mechanical assembly tasks.
• Ability to use gauges and measuring devices to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Experience with specialized torque equipment to ensure proper fastening and torque specifications.
• Familiarity with electrical testing equipment for basic verification of assembled systems.
• Mechanical blueprint reading skills and the ability to follow detailed assembly instructions.
• Engine-related mechanical experience working with engine components or systems.
• Willingness and ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift after training on 1st shift.
• Flexibility to work overtime, including 10–12 hour days and approximately 55+ hours per week.

• Previous experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Experience working on front suspension wheel assemblies and hoof style brake assemblies.
• Familiarity with automated assembly line processes and production workflows.
• Comfort working with lifting devices and cranes for large or heavy assemblies.
• Ability to travel for work and take advantage of per diem opportunities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
• Ability to adapt to changing schedules, including weekend and holiday work when required.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite in a manufacturing environment that operates automated assembly lines and robotic arm systems. You will work with a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, gauges and measuring devices, specialized torque equipment, electrical testing equipment, and lifting devices such as cranes and hoists.

The position trains on 1st shift for approximately three weeks, then transitions to 2nd or 3rd shift. Typical off-shift hours include 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with overtime expected, often resulting in 10–12 hour days and an anticipated workload of 55+ hours per week. You may work 2 out of 4 Saturdays, with Sunday work available on a voluntary basis.

During holiday periods, you may be expected to work if the plant remains open and work is available; if the plant shuts down, you can go home. The environment is fast-paced, production-focused, and requires adherence to safety procedures and appropriate industrial attire suitable for a manufacturing setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
