We are currently partnering with a large, fast‑paced international retail organisation with an enviable brand and culture. The role will be supporting a highly complex, multi‑site operation across Spain and Portugal and be based out of their Iberia HQ in Madrid.
About the Role
With responsibility for c. 5,000 colleagues and leadership of a regional team of HR Business Partners, this role goes far beyond traditional store HR support. It requires a commercially focused HR leader who can influence at senior level, think regionally rather than locally, and lead other HRBPs through scale, growth and complexity.
Responsibilities
- Act as a trusted, strategic HR advisor to senior regional retail leadership
- Lead, coach and develop a team of 6-7 HR Business Partners, ensuring strong, consistent people delivery across the region
- Own and drive the regional people strategy, translating commercial priorities into people outcomes
- Partner with leadership on talent, performance, succession and engagement at scale
- Act as the escalation point for complex employee relations, operating confidently in regulated and unionised environments
- Use data, insight and commercial judgement to identify trends, risks and opportunities
- Lead and support major change activity including growth, restructures and new store openings
- Ensure governance, consistency and compliance of people policies across multiple markets
- Operate as a credible peer within the wider regional leadership team, with strong visibility and influence
Qualifications
- Fluent Spanish (mandatory) and the confidence to operate professionally in Spanish day‑to‑day
- Strong experience as a commercial HR Business Partner within retail or other high‑volume, multi‑site environments (e.g. hospitality, FMCG, consumer-led sectors)
- Proven experience leading, managing or strongly influencing other HR Business Partners
- Ability to operate credibly with senior commercial stakeholders (Regional Directors, Heads of Sales, Operations Leaders)
- Experience managing large geographic regions and organisational complexity, ideally cross‑border
- A strategic mindset with the confidence to operate above day‑to‑day casework
- Gravitas, resilience and the ability to balance pace with judgement
