Our client is an established ship management organization seeking an experienced Marine Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of a fleet of LPG and Ethylene vessels. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with vessel crews, technical teams, charterers, and regulatory bodies to uphold the highest standards of marine operations, safety, and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day marine operations of assigned vessels, including navigation, mooring, cargo handling, deck operations, safety equipment, port calls, and STS operations.
- Ensure the safe and efficient execution of cargo operations, including loading, discharging, tank preparation, and grade change activities.
- Monitor vessel performance and operational standards, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry best practices, and international maritime regulations.
- Manage and coordinate third-party inspections, including SIRE, CDI, PSC, USCG, terminal, flag state, and class inspections.
- Conduct vessel inspections, internal audits, and management reviews, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Review and analyse operational reports, inspection findings, incident investigations, near misses, and safety observations to enhance fleet performance and risk management.
- Liaise with classification societies, flag administrations, oil majors, ship owners, terminals, and other stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
- Work closely with Technical Superintendents on dry-docking projects, repair planning, maintenance activities, and operational readiness.
- Monitor planned and emergency repairs to ensure safe and effective execution with minimal operational disruption.
- Develop and deliver training, coaching, and competency assessments for shipboard officers and crew.
- Conduct officer appraisals, participate in recruitment and promotion assessments, and support crew development initiatives.
- Lead or support incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the fleet, driving continuous improvement in safety, environmental, and security performance.
Requirements
- Holder of a valid Master Mariner Certificate of Competency.
- Sailing experience as Master or Chief Officer on LPG and/or Ethylene carriers is essential.
- Prior shore-based experience is not required; candidates seeking their first shore-based role are welcome to apply.
- Strong understanding of international maritime regulations, vessel operations, marine safety management systems, and industry best practices.
- Experience with tanker inspection regimes, including SIRE, CDI, PSC, USCG, and flag state inspections.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, make sound operational decisions, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working within a digital and technology-driven operating environment.
- Willingness to travel at short notice and support operational requirements on a 24/7 basis when necessary.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and report-writing skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Independent, organised, and results-oriented, with the ability to build strong working relationships across vessel and shore-based teams.
