Content and Digital Marketing Coordinator

Job Overview

The Smoll Company LLC is a Boyle Heights-based startup building a new platform to help independent neighborhood businesses become easier to find, promote, and support.

We are seeking a creative Content & Digital Marketing Coordinator to help tell the stories of Boyle Heights businesses and build the public voice of Smoll.

This is not primarily a paid-advertising or SEO position. We are looking for someone who can walk into a neighborhood restaurant, shop, salon, or professional office, recognize what makes that business interesting, and turn it into compelling digital content.

You will work closely with our Business Community Manager, who develops relationships with local business owners. Your job is to turn those relationships into photography, short-form video, business profiles, social media, newsletters, promotions, and marketing campaigns that help independent businesses get noticed.

Because Smoll is an early-stage company, this position offers significant opportunity to help shape our brand, content strategy, and marketing programs as the company grows.

Duties

• Create short-form video featuring local businesses, owners, products, services, and neighborhood stories.
• Photograph businesses, owners, employees, products, food, events, and community activity.
• Interview business owners and turn their stories into engaging digital content.
• Create content for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and other appropriate platforms.
• Write business profiles, features, captions, promotional copy, and other marketing content.
• Develop recurring content series highlighting independent Boyle Heights businesses.
• Create promotional campaigns for participating businesses.
• Help deliver marketing services for Smoll’s paid business members.
• Develop email and newsletter content.
• Help businesses promote events, special offers, new products, anniversaries, and other milestones.
• Document the growth of Smoll’s Build Boyle Heights initiative through video, photography, and storytelling.
• Develop campaigns such as “Open During Construction” to support businesses affected by street or infrastructure disruptions.
• Produce content and visual materials demonstrating Smoll’s impact to sponsors and community partners.
• Help develop and maintain Smoll’s brand voice and visual identity.
• Maintain an organized content calendar and production workflow.
• Track basic content performance and use results to improve future work.
• Experiment with AI-assisted creative and marketing tools where they improve quality or efficiency.
• Work collaboratively with Smoll’s business outreach, partnerships, and technology teams.

Qualifications

We are more interested in what you can create than in checking every box.

Strong candidates may have a degree or professional experience in marketing, communications, journalism, film/video, photography, digital media, advertising, graphic design, fine arts, or a related field.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have

• Strong video production and editing skills.
• Photography experience and a good visual eye.
• Strong writing and storytelling ability.
• Experience creating content for social media.
• An understanding of how content can help a business attract and retain customers.
• Ability to communicate comfortably with business owners and community members.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Curiosity and willingness to experiment with new technology and AI tools.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team.

Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, social media management tools, email marketing, CMS platforms, Google Analytics, SEO, paid social advertising, or similar digital marketing tools is helpful but not required across every platform.

Spanish-language ability and familiarity with Boyle Heights or Eastside Los Angeles are helpful but not required.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this position means producing excellent content that people actually watch, read, share, and act on—and helping neighborhood businesses see tangible value from participating in Smoll.

We will measure business participation, content production, audience engagement, consumer referrals, newsletter growth, delivery of member marketing services, and feedback from participating businesses.

Growth Opportunity

This position will begin at approximately 15–20 hours per week and has the potential to grow as Smoll expands.

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
