Role Description

This is a full-time, in-office Python Backend Developer / Applied AI Engineer role located in the Long Island area of New York.

You will work on backend systems, financial data workflows, API integrations, internal tools, and AI-assisted automation. A major part of this role is being able to leverage modern AI coding tools such as Claude, Codex, and similar agentic coding workflows to move quickly while still producing clean, maintainable, production-ready code.

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of tasks, work through ambiguity, communicate clearly, and help build systems that are reliable, understandable, and useful to the business.

What You’ll Do

● Build and maintain backend systems using Python

● Develop and maintain API integrations with financial platforms, CRMs, and third-party data providers

● Ingest, clean, structure, and process banking and financial data

● Build tools that support automated financial analysis and client-facing workflows

● Use AI/LLMs to extract insights from messy financial documents, transactions, and operational data

● Leverage tools such as Claude, Codex, and AI coding agents to accelerate development while maintaining strong engineering standards

● Debug, test, and improve backend systems, data pipelines, and integrations

● Write clear, maintainable code that other developers can understand and build on

● Communicate blockers early and take ownership of assigned work through completion

● Work closely with backend, frontend, Salesforce, and client-facing teams to ship practical solutions quickly

Qualifications

● 2+ years of professional experience developing software with Python

● Strong backend development skills and understanding of clean, maintainable code

● Experience working with databases and writing SQL

● Familiarity with Linux and command-line workflows

● Experience building or working with APIs and third-party integrations

● Ability to debug complex issues across systems

● Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working through ambiguity

● Ability to use AI coding tools such as Claude, Codex, Cursor, or similar tools effectively and responsibly

● Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a small, fast-moving team

● Willingness to work in-office in the Long Island, NY area

Nice to Have

● Experience with financial data, banking data, underwriting, revenue-based finance, or fintech systems

● Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, AI agents, or document/data extraction workflows

● Experience working in AWS

● Experience with SQLAlchemy, FastAPI, Flask, Pandas, or similar Python tools

● Experience with Scala or JVM-based backend systems

● Experience working in a startup or small-company environment

● Experience writing documentation and improving internal development processes
