THE DAY PRIOR TO THE END DATE LISTED ON THIS JOB POSTINGThis is an anticipated vacancyThe North Carolina Department of Revenue is currently recruiting for a Revenue Tax Technician (RTT) position to work in the Examination Division. This position performs a variety of tasks in the Discovery Unit within Central Examination.
The Revenue Tax Technician is involved in educating and assisting taxpayers in the areas of tax compliance and reporting procedures to ensure compliance with tax laws.
The position makes technical determinations based upon established procedures that require an accurate analysis of data and situations to draw sound conclusions which result in effective courses of action. The position performs technical functions by reviewing and analyzing data on federal and state individual income tax returns.
The position accesses and reviews taxpayer account information and enters information into ITAS based on their review and departmental rules and regulations and assists in maintenance of databases and spreadsheets related to the audit programs.
This is a great opportunity for someone with excellent time management skills, a strong work ethic, and can prioritize and multitask. The Revenue Tax Technician demonstrates courteous, professional, and efficient behavior while dealing with controversial matters with both taxpayers and coworkers.
This position is subject to federal and state criminal background checks that may include fingerprinting and verification of tax compliance. "Tax compliance" is defined as having filed and paid all North Carolina State taxes owed each year leading up to the current calendar year or currently in a non-delinquent payment status with the State of North Carolina on taxes that are currently owed to the state.
To be considered within the most qualified pool of applicants and receive credit for your work history and credentials, you must document all related education and experience on the State of North Carolina application in the appropriate sections of the application form. Any information omitted from the application cannot be considered for qualifying credit.

Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting or related field from an appropriately accredited institution, and one year work experience preferably in an accounting-related environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
