We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Supervisory Optometrist to join our healthcare team. This leadership role provides comprehensive eye care services, oversees clinical operations, and promotes quality patient outcomes.
As a key member of the organization, you will help advance ocular health and improve access to care while leading a team committed to excellence and service for Native American communities.
Duties Help Plan, implement and direct the optometry eye care program. Establish and maintain working policies of the eye clinic, assure adequate staffing of the optometry clinic; develop or direct the development of procedure manuals for the optometry program and establish and maintain effective quality control and performance improvement.
Directs the full range of ocular testing and examinations from a clinical as well as an administrative point of view.
Treats visual disorders through the prescription of corrective lenses and vision training and pharmacological means.
Provide orientation and training for facility personnel, coordinate all professional continuing education for eye care personnel, and monitor all completion of mandatory training for eye care personnel.
Assists with provision of screening programs, kindergarten school screening and diabetic retinopathy.
Develop, evaluate and revise performance improvement programs to evaluate quality, appropriateness and effectiveness of eye care services provided. Ensure that the performance improvement program is in compliance with Optometry, Service Unit, and IHS and Joint Commission standards. Participate in service unit performance improvement planning.
The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
The work involves walking, sitting, standing, reaching and bending in the assessment and treatment of patients.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.
This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.IHS Selectees whose duties and responsibilities require them to work permanently, temporarily, or occasionally in an IHS healthcare facility must comply with the IHS Employee Immunization Policy related to vaccine-preventable diseases, consistent with recommendations for healthcare workers.
Vaccine exemption requests may be available, as outlined in the IHS Employee Immunization Policy and facility guidance.
This position is not covered by a Bargaining Unit.
Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. A service agreement will be required.
This position has no promotion potential.
