OVERVIEW
In the capacity of the Lead Sales Associate, we expect the maintenance of a tidy, meticulously arranged store with a customer-first approach. Some of the tasks include assisting customers in finding and purchasing goods, operating the cash register, and replenishing and organizing merchandise.
These tasks are conducted under the guidance of Store Manager and aim to drive store profitability and customer satisfaction and safeguard company resources. The Lead Sales Associate takes on the responsibilities of a Sales Associate and serves in a guiding role when the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager are absent.
KEY TASKS AND ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Display superior customer service leadership; welcome and provide assistance to customers.
- Operate the cash register and scanner to list and sum up the customer's purchase, collect the payment, and provide change, bagging of items, and assist customers with their bought items as required.
- Adhere to company protocols to receive, unpack, and open boxes, cartons and totes of merchandise; replenish stock, shuffle and organize items on the shelves, and set up merchandise displays.
- Maintain store cleanliness, dispose of trash, sweep and mop the store floors, clean the restroom and stockroom, and provide assistance in setting up sidewalk displays.
- Participate in the implementation and upkeep of the store's layout.
- Handle the opening and closing of the store as directed by the Store Manager.
- Carry out additional tasks typically taken on by the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, in their absence.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE THAT ARE REQUIRED
- Aptitude for interpersonal and oral communication.
- Awareness and comprehension of safety policies and procedures.
- Capability to read and abide by the guidelines for store layout and merchandise display.
- Proficiency in simple mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculating percentages.
- Knowledge of cash register functions.
- Understanding of cash, facility, and safety control policies.
- Knowledge in cash management procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Must be able to drive a personal vehicle to the bank for depositing cash.
WORK EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION THAT IS PREFERRED
- High school graduation or its equivalent and at least six months of supervisory experience (or relevant experience/training).
WORK CONDITIONS
- Regular walking and standing.
- Regular bending, stooping, and kneeling to operate the check-out station, replenishing merchandise and unloading trucks is necessary, potentially requiring pushing and pulling of rolltainers for restocking.
- Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment like handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise bins, and cargo handling equipment such as two-wheel dollies, U-boats (six-wheel carts), and rolltainers.
- Proper lifting of up to 40 pounds frequently; lifting of 55 pounds occasionally.
- Climbing (using a step ladder) to heights of up to six feet occasionally.
- Working in a high-energy environment with a moderate level of noise.
- Infrequently working under outside weather conditions.
- Occasional or regular driving/arranging personal transportation for the purpose of making bank deposits, attending supervisory meetings, and visiting other Dollar General stores.
