54 Below, a recipient of the 2022 TONY AWARDS® Honor for Excellence in the Theatre, is seeking an Audio & Video Technician to join its award-winning production team. Reporting to the Production Manager, the Audio & Video Technician will play a vital role in executing the over 700 performances that the venue puts on annually.
Known as ‘Broadway’s Living Room,’ 54 Below is a home away from home for Broadway professionals and audiences. Offering two unique shows nightly, 54 Below is the only independent non-profit cabaret in New York City. Known for its intimate atmosphere and high production standards, 54 Below offers audiences a premier live entertainment experience.

This is a full-time, on-site role based at 54 Below in NYC, NY. The Live Audio and Video Technician will set up, operate, and strike audio, video, and backline equipment for live performances and special events. Day-to-day tasks include running sound checks, mixing live audio, operating video systems, and ensuring all cues are executed accurately during shows.
The technician will troubleshoot technical issues in real time, coordinate with performers and production staff, and maintain equipment in good working order through regular inspections and minor repairs. The role also involves documenting setups, following safety protocols, and contributing to continuous improvement of the venue’s technical operations and performer experience.
Duties are currently expected to be roughly 35% live camera operation and 65% live sound mixing.
● Operate and maintain video equipment for livestreams and video recordings of live shows.
● Serve as audio engineer on shows where there is no livestream or video recording.
● Manage venue’s library of video recordings.
● Collaborate with Marketing Department on editing projects.
● Send video recordings to artists and coordinate any transfers via physical media.
● Train on the venue’s lighting system and be fluent in that as well.
● 2-3 years of experience mixing FOH live audio in concert or theatrical setting.
● Strong Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving audio, video, and signal-flow issues quickly and calmly under pressure.
● Experience in livestreaming and/or live video operating a plus. A willingness to learn video if not already fluent is a must.
● Experience in or willingness to learn video editing software (Adobe Premiere).
● Strong organizational and computing skills.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Comfort working evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by performance schedules.
The salary for this position is $70,000 a year with some opportunity for additional overtime. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance options and an employee-funded 401(K) Plan.
