Position Overview
Farm Data Systems (FDS), founded in 2014 and based in Madera, California, is revolutionizing the agriculture industry with a robust platform for irrigation management. Through integrated pump control, crop monitoring, and irrigation automation, FDS helps growers achieve cost-effective and efficient irrigation systems.
We are seeking an In-House SCADA Software Technician to take ownership of testing, configuring, and deploying Ignition-based SCADA software features developed by our remote software engineering team.
In this role, you will lead new customer projects, provide Tier 2 software support by diagnosing and resolving complex software-related issues, and develop and maintain technical documentation to ensure consistency across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Testing & Quality Assurance:
- Test and validate new Ignition features, scripts, and UI components developed by remote engineers
- Conduct functional, integration, and regression testing in a controlled test environment
- Document test cases, results, and release notes for internal and external use
- SCADA Configuration & Deployment:
- Lead software configuration for new customer projects including tag setup, alarm rules, logging, and dashboards
- Coordinate with field teams during commissioning to validate live functionality
- Tier 2 Software Support:
- Serve as the primary contact for escalated software-related customer support cases
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to Ignition configuration, scripting, and integration
- Collaborate with Tier 1 support to refine troubleshooting procedures
- Escalate unresolved issues to remote engineers with reproduction steps and logs
- Documentation & Standards:
- Develop and maintain configuration templates, deployment playbooks, and troubleshooting guides
- Keep detailed records of configurations and software changes
- Ensure support documentation is accurate and up to date
Required Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience with Ignition SCADA (Perspective and/or Vision)
- Proficiency in tag configuration, Python scripting, alarms, and historian setup
- Understanding of PLC/RTU communication protocols (Modbus, MQTT, OPC-UA)
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a detail-oriented approach
- Experience with producing technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in agricultural automation or irrigation systems
- Knowledge of wireless telemetry technologies (LoRa, cellular)
- Familiarity with Git/version control and QA workflows
- Experience with REST API integrations
