Cargo Handler
As a Cargo Handler, you will play a vital role in ensuring that freight is efficiently loaded, unloaded, and transported within our terminal or work site.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow work orders or verbal instructions to identify the materials or containers that need to be moved.
- Load and unload freight while accurately counting items as they are moved onto or off pallets, trays, racks, and shelves.
- Load cargo into vehicles and take necessary precautions such as blocking, bracing, or padding to prevent damage during transport.
- Transport freight from the storage area or trailers to designated locations within the facility.
- Use lifting equipment to safely convey loads to their destinations.
- Label and tag freight appropriately, ensuring proper identification.
- Organize and bundle freight on pallets, using bands to secure them together.
- Maintain a clean work area, assisting equipment operators as needed.
- Operate industrial trucks or electric hoists to facilitate the moving and loading of material and products.
- Engage proactively in team efforts to meet departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred; 1-3 months of relevant experience or training is a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to read and understand safety regulations, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; capable of writing basic correspondence.
- Aptitude for basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Forklift certification is required.
- Training in hazardous materials handling is preferred.
- Ability to solve problems and interact effectively with diverse personalities.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Capability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This role involves physical activity and is set in an environment that can be dynamic and challenging:
- Frequent standing, walking, using hands, reaching, talking, and hearing.
- Occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling.
- Ability to lift and/or move regularly up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 80 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
- Good vision capabilities, including color vision and depth perception.
In the workplace, you may encounter the following
- Exposure to moving vehicles, varying weather conditions, and vibrations.
- Occasional contact with wet/humid conditions, extreme temperatures, and high places.
- A moderate to high noise level.

Compensation
- This position offers a competitive pay rate of $18.50 per hour.
