The National Biosecurity Hub The National Biosecurity Hub is a national coordination platform that brings together government, industry, academia and the research community to strengthen South Africa’s biosecurity system.
The Hub supports collaborative initiatives relating to animal health, plant health, surveillance systems, diagnostics, biosecurity intelligence, capacity development and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) coordination to enhance food security, safe trade and market access Vision & mission Significantly increase the capacity currently available to the SPS regulatory authorities of South Africa to deal with biosecurity issues; Overarching aim Provide sanitary and phytosanitary capacity building, information and research services to clients in the public and private sectors, to strengthen biosecurity and meet the SPS requirements of international trade.

Key Responsibilities
- Project Coordination & Management Coordinate and monitor implementation of animal health and biosecurity projects;
- Track deliverables, timelines, milestones and reporting requirements;
- Facilitate project planning, implementation and stakeholder coordination;
- Support grant management and project administration activities.
- Technical & Research Support Conduct literature reviews and synthesize technical information;
- Review scientific outputs, technical reports and policy-related documents;
- Support evidence-based decision making and project implementation;
- Contribute to development of technical reports, presentations and strategic documents.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination Liaise with government departments, industry stakeholders, researchers and service providers;
- Coordinate meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagements;
- Support national coordination initiatives relating to animal health and biosecurity;
- Represent the Hub at relevant meetings and technical engagements where required.
- Information & Reporting Prepare progress reports and project updates for funders and stakeholders;
- Maintain accurate project records, databases and reporting documentation;
- Support dissemination of scientific and technical information.
- Mminimum Requirements Relevant Masters’ degree (Plant Pathology;
- Entomology;
- Veterinary Science;
- Animal Science;
- Veterinary Public Health;
- Epidemiology;
- Animal Health; related biological science; or equivalent Postgraduate qualification) with at least 1 year of experience in research management;
- Valid Drivers’ license;
- Valid South African Identity Document.
- Required Competencies (skills, Knowledge And Behavioural Attributes) Project coordination or research management;
- Stakeholder engagement across government, academia and industry;
- Knowledge of animal health or biosecurity systems;
- Experience with donor/funder reporting;
- Understanding of SPS or regulatory environments;
- Experience working in multidisciplinary environments;
- Knowledge of surveillance systems or data management is advantageous.
