Logistics Operations Lead
Location: Commerce, CA → Vernon, CA
Reports to: VP of Operations
Type: Full-Time, Exempt
About Us
Olive Ateliers is a fast-growing, founder-led lifestyle brand entering a pivotal next chapter. What began as a business rooted in sourcing and retailing vintage objects from around the world is now evolving into a design-led home furnishings company, with rapidly expanding proprietary collections produced through a trusted network of global partners.
As we grow from a cult-favorite retail concept into a nationally recognized luxury consumer brand, we’re building the operational engine that will power this next exciting phase of growth.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Logistics Lead who is as comfortable executing on the day-to-day details as they are thinking through what the operation needs to look like as we grow.
This role carries direct accountability for inbound and outbound logistics cost across all modes, manages carrier relationships and day-to-day bookings, and takes hands-on ownership of our in-house local delivery fleet, including routing, driver coordination, and delivery quality.
You’ll work closely with the VP of Operations on network strategy and carrier decisions, and bring the operational perspective that makes those decisions grounded.
Reporting to the VP of Operations, this role sets and holds the operating standards the broader Ops team works against. This is not a purely strategic seat: you’ll be booking shipments, routing deliveries, auditing carrier invoices, managing driver schedules, and solving real problems daily while contributing meaningfully to process improvement and how the logistics network evolves over time.
The right person biases toward action, takes genuine ownership of outcomes, communicates proactively when things go off plan, and holds themselves to a high standard on cost and service quality.
Responsibilities
Freight & Parcel
- Own all inbound and outbound logistics across every mode (Ocean, Air, FTL, LTL domestic and international, outbound parcel, and fulfillment across Store, Online, and Events), with direct accountability for cost per shipment and shipping cost as a percentage of revenue targets.
- Execute day-to-day freight bookings and monitor parcel shipments: tendering loads, managing booking confirmations, tracking in-transit shipments; follow through on exceptions until resolved.
- Manage carrier relationships across freight and parcel, support rate negotiations led by Operations leadership, and execute against the carrier strategy set with the VP of Operations.
- Own parcel-specific levers and guidelines hands-on: carrier selection by zone and SKU, rate shopping, packaging-to-carrier fit, and dimensional weight optimization.
- Support multi-carrier diversification efforts by identifying coverage gaps, performance issues, and alternative carrier options for review with Operations leadership.
- Maintain system transparency so shipping options and rates are consistently and correctly applied across all channels.
In-House Fleet & Local Delivery
- Own and personally manage our in-house local delivery fleet day to day, including routing, driver coordination, scheduling, and real-time problem-solving on delivery day.
- Build and maintain daily and weekly local delivery routing: stop sequencing, zone planning, capacity balancing across drivers and vehicles, and same-day rerouting when access or volume issues arise.
- Own all fleet run transfers between warehouse and retail locations, including setting the cadence, managing routing, and ensuring inventory accuracy moving in both directions.
- Own fleet support for Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPIS), ensuring transfers feeding store pickup inventory are timely, accurately tracked, and do not create stockout or mis-pick issues at the retail end.
- Elevate local delivery into a defining brand touchpoint: white glove standards, delivery windows, communication cadence, and an on-site experience that delivers the same “wow” customers expect from the product itself.
- Build out SOPs, training, and quality standards for drivers and delivery teams covering safety, professionalism, and damage prevention, and hold the team accountable to them daily.
- Surface opportunities to expand the fleet’s reach (new zones, increased frequency, additional service tiers) and provide data and operational input to support the business case for incremental investment.
- Partner closely with Operations leadership on fleet cost, ROI analysis, and scalability decisions as volume grows.
Process Ownership
- Own the SOP framework for shipping, receiving, replenishment, inter-warehouse transfers, and warehouse-to-retail flows; partner with the Warehouse Operations Lead on execution but hold the standard.
- Own SOPs for parcel pack-and-ship workflows, including carrier selection logic at the point of fulfillment and exception handling for oversized or non-standard SKUs, and actively work the floor alongside the team when needed to ensure the standard is being met.
- Own all third-party carrier bookings across freight and parcel modes: tendering outbound shipments, managing booking confirmations, and ensuring pickup adherence by carrier partners.
- Serve as the live escalation point when pickups, shipments, transfers, or deliveries go off plan. You are expected to personally resolve issues, not just delegate them.
- Partner with the CX Lead to resolve logistics-driven issues across freight, parcel, local delivery, and BOPIS; this role does not communicate directly with customers but owns the resolution playbook the CX Lead executes against.
- Support cross-dock operations and outbound transfers for retail and online replenishment, with authority to redesign these flows as volume grows.
Carrier Network & Cost Optimization
- Manage the day-to-day carrier network across freight and parcel: maintain rate cards, track performance against service level agreements, and flag issues for review with Operations leadership.
- Identify and implement cost savings initiatives across all shipping methods, tracking impact against targets set with Operations leadership, investing in what truly moves the needle, and cutting waste everywhere else.
- Own billing accuracy and spend tracking hands-on: pull monthly variance reviews and perform parcel invoice audits yourself, flagging discrepancies and recovering overcharges directly with carriers.
Continuous Improvement & Scale Planning
- Execute improvement initiatives to shorten lead times, optimize container fill rates, reduce parcel costs per shipment, and reduce damage rates, with measurable targets reported monthly to Operations leadership.
- Drive packaging standards with vendors to reduce freight and parcel inefficiencies, partnering with the Packaging Optimization workstream.
- Research and surface logistics technology options (multi-carrier platforms, parcel rate shopping tools, routing software) for review with Operations leadership; support evaluation and rollout of approved tools.
- Mentor Warehouse Operations team members on shipping and delivery best practices, even without formal reporting lines.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding, parcel and small package shipping, or supply chain operations.
- Demonstrated experience managing or scaling a local delivery and fleet operation, ideally in a premium or white glove service context, with personal comfort being hands-on in that operation daily.
- Experience with parcel carrier management and cost optimization (UPS, FedEx, regional carriers); comfort supporting rate negotiations and holding carriers accountable to service commitments.
- Track record of measurable cost savings delivery through execution and process improvement.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills; comfortable tracking cost data, building simple models, and presenting findings to leadership.
- Proficient with Shopify and Google Workspace; experience with logistics, routing, and parcel rate shopping software strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with AI tools to support research, drafting, and operational analysis; comfort learning new tools quickly.
- Licensed driver required; forklift certification preferred.
- Must be based in Los Angeles.
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs with proper equipment.
Compensation
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
- Long-term incentive program aligned with company growth
- 401k: Generous employer match (eligibility requirements and vesting applies)
- Subsidized company health benefits
- $500 Olive Ateliers shopping credit per quarter
- 40% off retail merchandise
- Accrued PTO Vacation & Sick Days
- A dynamic work environment with long-term growth opportunities
