Position Details
The Human Resource Specialist is highly organized and solutions oriented. He/she is critical to the overall success of the network. He/she is always looking for ways to improve human resource systems and processes in order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness, and to help ensure all employees have access to the HR supports they may need.
This role entails a high degree of interpersonal communication, empathy and attention to detail and includes interactions with Board members, volunteers, outside contractors and all levels of the Intergenerational Schools staff of approximately 85 people serving two campuses across Cleveland.
Responsibilities
Policy and Procedure
- Staffs Human Resource Advisory Council of the Board including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and supporting materials, recording minutes, etc. Occasionally presents to the Board of Directors during public school board meetings.
- In coordination with the HR Advisory Council, develops, drafts and explains new or amended human resource policies for Board approval and adoption.
- Coordinates and/or conducts compensation studies, to review and analyze relevant position trends with the school board, the Human Resource Advisory Council, and school administrators.
- Enforces board policies and administrative procedures (including within Staff Handbook) and assists all supervisors in enforcing them with their own staff.
- Monitors employment laws. Upholds all local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations, especially pertaining to public charter schools.
- Works with the Chief of Staff and Chief Operating Officer to develop procedural protocols necessary to comply with policies or legislative mandates.
- Serve as the District’s Compliance Officer for human resource regulations.
Recruitment and Hiring
- Assists in the development of job descriptions for new positions and maintains and organizes current and past job descriptions.
- Directs the posting of all positions. Ensures that employees are placed on the correct salary schedule. Screens leadership or model-level job applications.
- In conjunction with the building leadership and model administrators, leads teacher recruitment which includes attending job fairs and screening potential teaching candidates.
- In conjunction with model administration and/or building leadership, facilitates recruitment and screening of administrative and support staff positions.
- Issues and maintains accurate employment letters of hire (LOH).
- Coordinates process for employee onboarding, including issuing correct new hire paperwork, and follow-up for missing documents.
- Manages and maintains the model’s Staff Affidavits.
- Ensures all current staff have up to date BCI/FBI and works with Principals to ensure all educational employees have current ODE licenses for positions and, if needed, helps develop and implement plans for educational employees to obtain or maintain appropriate licensure.
- Trains new and retuning staff on human resource policy (Staff Handbook) and various procedures and forms.
Ongoing HR Administration
- Works with the Chief of Staff to administer the district’s workers’ compensation and FMLA programs.
- In coordination with the Chief of Staff, administer employee benefits programs and ensures services are being provided satisfactorily. Assists in researching, negotiating, and implementing any new or renewal benefits programs.
- Helps resolve HR-related problems and support employees through grievances, personal crises, leaves of absence, etc. Respects personal privacy and responds professionally and empathetically. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Manage HR specific vendor contracts, specifically online platforms for employee records.
- Maintains and organizes all employee files.
- Assist in the creation and administration of staff surveys.
Discipline and Termination
- Counsels Supervisors on matters of discipline, policies, practices in accordance with policy and industry best practice (Performance Improvement Plans or PIP & Notices of Corrective Actions or NCA).
- Administers terminations and off-boarding processes.
Payroll and Finance (with contracted Treasurer’s Office)
- Work with Treasurer’s office to calculate mid-year hires or terminations and pro-rating salaries for payroll.
- Determine and communicate medical, maternity, or other leave calculations.
- Assist in calculating and processing supplemental agreement payments.
- Review and approve each payroll for the schools, ensuring the correct amounts, adjustments, employee dates, funds, etc. are accurate, review timesheets.
- Ensure Treasurer knows of any significant financial changes such as new hires or insurance revisions Budgeting.
- Calculate and project compensation increases for budgeting purposes, according to Board approved Compensation Plan.
- Work with the school's leadership team to develop school budgets and accurate projections related to employee compensation and benefits, both for immediate decisions and long-term planning.
- Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3-5 years’ experience in human resource administrative management.
- School experience preferred.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
