New American Leaders (NAL) is the only national, nonpartisan, 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to training immigrants and refugees to become successful candidates, campaign managers, and civic leaders. We define "New Americans" as first- and second-generation Americans, immigrants, refugees, and those who identify with the immigrant experience.
These individuals' immigrant experience uniquely positions them to contribute to a more inclusive democracy.
Since our founding in 2010, NAL has embraced the immigrant experience as a civic leadership asset, providing a comprehensive arc of support that guides New Americans from initial candidate training through governance once they are in office.
To date, NAL has trained over 2,000 New Americans across the country, with more than 200 alumni currently serving in elected or appointed positions, and nearly 100 running for office in 2026.
We believe the Central Valley's future should be shaped by the people who call it home, its immigrant families, its first- and second-generation Americans, and the next generation of leaders rising across the region.
We've built real momentum here, and we're committed to this community for the long haul: building on the success of our training programs, deepening our work with training alumni, and growing a network of New American elected and appointed officials who are already governing in a way that reflects who we are.
As our Central Valley Engagement and Recruitment Consultant, you'll work alongside our national staff, recruiting emerging leaders into our Ready to Lead® training in Fresno, helping bring our events and alumni gatherings to life, and strengthening the local partnerships that keep this movement growing.

At New American Leaders and New American Leaders Action Fund (NAL/AF), we envision an inclusive democracy where every American is represented. By empowering first and second-generation Americans to run, win, and lead in elected office, we are building a stronger democracy and engaging immigrant communities at every level of the political process.
We also support New American elected and appointed officials at the frontlines of creating transformative policy in their communities. NAL/AF are national nonpartisan nonprofits with programs and staff located across the country.
NAL/AF is seeking its inaugural Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to build and lead a unified vision for the organization's Development and Communications' Teams with the goals of long-term sustainability, revenue growth, brand awareness, and visibility.
As a member of the executive leadership team in this newly created position, the CAO partners with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Operations Officer (COO), and Chief Program Officer (CPO) to strengthen organizational infrastructure, culture, and performance in service of the mission.
The CAO leads an integrated advancement function encompassing development and communications strategy, ensuring that revenue generation and external messaging are aligned, compelling, and compliant across both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities.
This role is central to translating organizational impact into sustainable funding, stewarding a clear and values-aligned public narrative, and building strong relationships with donors, board members, partners, and other stakeholders.
In this role, the CAO will design and execute an ambitious, diversified revenue strategy; cultivate a strong culture of philanthropy across the organization and board; and provide executive oversight of communications to ensure consistent storytelling that advances impact, engagement, and long-term sustainability.
The ideal candidate is both strategic and creative, with the ability to lead cross-functional collaboration, build scalable systems, and manage complex portfolios across development and communications. Experience fundraising within both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) environments is required. Experience fundraising with democracy organizations and/or political initiatives is preferred.
