About the Position
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Human Resources Assistant to join our growing team. The HR Assistant will support day-to-day human resources operations, including onboarding, employee records management, benefits administration, payroll support, and compliance with California employment laws. The ideal candidate is proactive, maintains confidentiality, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with new hire onboarding, orientation, and employee paperwork.
- Process and maintain employee records, including I-9s, personnel files, and employment documentation.
- Support payroll processing by collecting timecards and assisting with payroll-related inquiries.
- Coordinate employee benefits enrollment and answer basic benefits questions.
- Assist with workers’ compensation reporting and leave administration, including sick leave and protected leaves.
- Maintain compliance with California labor laws, wage and hour requirements, and company policies.
- Prepare employment verification letters, disciplinary documentation, and separation paperwork.
- Track employee training, certifications, and required acknowledgments.
- Assist with handbook updates, policy implementation, and employee communications.
- Respond to employee inquiries and direct complex issues to management as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee information and company records.
- Provide general administrative support to the HR and management teams.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1-2 years of Human Resources or administrative experience required.
- Knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices preferred.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems such as Paychex, ADP, or similar platforms.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Construction industry experience is a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Experience with onboarding, payroll support, workers’ compensation, and employee relations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
