Quality Engineer – Customer Quality / AS13100 Implementation
Position Summary
The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting the company’s transition from AS9100 compliance to AS13100 readiness while serving as the primary quality contact for RTX-related customer activity. This role will support customer quality requirements, corrective actions, production quality performance, FAIR documentation, process control development, and implementation of AS13100-related quality planning tools.
The Quality Engineer will work closely with Quality, Operations, Engineering, Customer Service, Inspection, and Production to ensure customer requirements are understood, flowed down, implemented, and verified. This position requires a hands-on quality professional who can operate effectively in both a manufacturing floor environment and a customer-facing quality role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Customer Quality / RTX Ownership
- Serve as the primary internal quality owner for RTX customer requirements, open issues, customer scorecards, corrective actions, documentation requests, and quality communication.
- Review RTX purchase orders, quality clauses, specifications, drawings, and customer-specific requirements to ensure proper internal flow-down.
- Lead or support customer corrective actions, including containment, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and effectiveness verification.
- Coordinate responses to customer complaints, escapes, rejections, RFIs, documentation requests, and quality system inquiries.
- Maintain an RTX quality action tracker and ensure timely closure of open customer quality issues.
- Support customer audits, visits, reviews, and source inspection activity as required.
- Monitor customer performance trends and drive improvement actions related to quality, delivery, documentation, and repeat issues.AS13100 Transition Support
- Support implementation of AS13100 requirements across the quality management system.
- Assist in maintaining and updating the AS13100 gap analysis, action register, evidence tracker, and implementation plan.
- Support development or revision of procedures, forms, work instructions, and records needed for AS13100 compliance.
- Assist with implementation of APQP / PPAP processes where contractually required.
- Support creation and maintenance of process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, key characteristic controls, MSA studies, and process capability studies.
- Assist with AS13100 training, awareness, and deployment across relevant functions.
- Support internal audits against AS9100, AS13100, customer-specific requirements, and internal procedures.
- Manufacturing Quality Engineering
- Work directly with Production, Inspection, Engineering, and Operations to resolve internal and external quality issues.
- Review nonconforming material and support disposition, containment, rework planning, repair coordination, and MRB activity.
- Support development and improvement of inspection plans, control plans, routers, work instructions, and quality checkpoints.
- Assist with first article inspections in accordance with AS9102 and customer requirements.
- Review inspection results, dimensional data, test reports, material certifications, and special process certifications for compliance.
- Support implementation of process controls for casting, finishing, inspection, outside processing, and other production activities.
- Identify recurring defects and drive corrective actions to reduce scrap, rework, customer escapes, and cost of poor quality.
- Support validation of inspection methods, gage capability, MSA, and measurement system improvements.
- Ensure quality records are accurate, complete, retrievable, and compliant with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Supplier and Special Process Support
- Assist with supplier quality activities including supplier corrective actions, quality flow-downs, supplier performance monitoring, and supplier documentation review.
- Support review of outside processing certifications, test reports, and special process documentation.
- Escalate supplier performance or documentation issues that may impact customer requirements or product conformity.
- Participate in supplier evaluations or audits as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical field; equivalent manufacturing quality experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 or equivalent aerospace/defense quality system requirements.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and quality clauses.
- Experience with root cause corrective action tools such as 8D, 5 Why, fishbone diagrams, containment plans, and effectiveness verification.
- Experience supporting customer quality issues, nonconforming material, corrective actions, and manufacturing process improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work directly with shop floor personnel, inspectors, engineers, managers, suppliers, and customers.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple open actions and deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AS13100, AESQ requirements, or aero engine customer requirements.
- Experience with RTX, Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, Raytheon, or other major aerospace customers.
- Experience with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, control plans, MSA, SPC, process capability, and key characteristics.
- Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports.
- Experience in aluminum casting, sand casting, investment casting, foundry operations, machining, heat treatment, NDT, or special processes.
- Internal auditor experience.GD&T knowledge.CQE, CQA, Six Sigma Green Belt, or similar certification.

Work Environment
Must be able to work in both office and manufacturing floor environments.
Must be able to walk the production floor, stand for extended periods, and access manufacturing areas as needed.
Must be able to use standard office equipment and quality documentation systems.
May be exposed to typical foundry/manufacturing conditions including heat, noise, dust, moving equipment, and required PPE areas.
