An in-person interview may be required during the hiring process. The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location. In CA: Typical hiring range is $171,148.50 to $209,181.50. Pay Range USD $128,136.00
You will manage a full defense caseload from assignment through posttrial motions. Essential tasks include a comprehensive review of new and transferred files with an initial evaluation letter to claims and service of initial discovery within 30 days of receipt of assignment.
You will summarize discovery responses and medical records within 30 days of receipt, take and defend depositions of parties, lay witnesses, and expert witnesses and complete deposition summaries within 20 days.
You will perform law and motion work—legal research; preparation of motions, oppositions and replies to motion; and court appearances for law and motion. Trial preparation, trial and posttrial motions are part of the role. This includes preparation of pretrial documents, motions in limine and oppositions thereto; all facets of a jury trial, trial motions and posttrial motions.
You may also perform other assignments from managing and senior managing attorneys as necessary to defend the insured.
Minimum education: requires a law degree and admission to the bar in the state(s) where practicing. Preferred education: law degree from a state accredited or ABA accredited law school and admission to the bar in the state(s) where practicing.
Minimum experience: 3+ years of insurance defense or related experience. Experience as the primary attorney defending personal injury lawsuits. 3+ insurance defense personal injury trials to verdict or equivalent litigation experience. Preferred: 5+ years of insurance defense experience; preferred 7+ insurance defense personal injury trials to verdict.
Minimum skills and abilities: comprehensive knowledge of insurance, torts, evidence, civil procedure, and trial practice. Effective communication, persuasion and analytical skills. Requires considerable automobile travel, up to 20% of work time. Must meet established company standards regarding personal driving history and current license status to be eligible for the position.
Must be able to work independently with minimum direction and have good organizational skills necessary to manage a caseload with exposures up to $150,000.
