Staff Accountant

PeerSource is currently recruiting for a Staff Accountant on a Direct Hire basis. This role is based out of Yuma, AZ.

Summary

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to support daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and month-end close activities for a growing retail organization. This is a hands-on role requiring strong general ledger knowledge, reconciliation experience, and the ability to work across multiple accounting functions.

The ideal candidate will be able to independently prepare financial statements, contribute to the close process, and thrive in an environment where flexibility and attention to detail are essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, journal entries, and general ledger activity.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
• Prepare Balance Sheets, Income Statements, and other financial reports.
• Reconcile daily accounting transactions, including cash receipts, deposits, financing transactions, invoices, and check payments.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies across multiple accounting systems and transaction types.
• Support tax preparation activities and provide documentation for audits and financial reviews.
• Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation, including paper-based financial records.
• Collaborate with accounting leadership to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with accounting standards.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a retail or multi-location environment.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
• Ability to independently prepare and analyze Balance Sheets and Income Statements.
• Experience working with accounting software and ERP/POS systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, adapt to changing priorities, and work effectively in a hands-on environment.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Prior experience supporting tax preparation, audits, or broader accounting operations is preferred.
