Project Accountant/Bookkeeper

Our client, a growing construction firm in New York City, is seeking a Bookkeeper / Project Accountant with 3+ years of experience to join their team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with construction industry experience who is comfortable managing day-to-day accounting functions while supporting project financial operations.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and collaborating with both vendors and field staff to ensure accurate and timely financial processing.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
• Prepare and process client billing, invoices, and payment applications
• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger
• Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end close
• Review vendor invoices and coordinate payments with subcontractors and suppliers
• Communicate with vendors, project managers, and field workers regarding invoices, job costs, and payment status
• Assist with job cost tracking and project-related financial reporting
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other balance sheet accounts
• Support internal accounting controls and ensure accurate financial records
• Help resolve discrepancies related to project billing, vendor accounts, and expense coding

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, preferably within the construction industry
• Strong experience with AP, AR, billing, general ledger, and journal entries
• Experience working with vendors, subcontractors, and field personnel
• Understanding of job costing and project accounting principles is highly preferred
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Construction accounting software experience preferred
• Experience supporting multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
