DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

12-MONTH POSITION

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree from an accredited college or university required.
• Valid New Jersey Principal Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility (CE) for Principal.
• Valid New Jersey Special Education certificate.
• At least five (5)years of related administrative experience preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective principles, practices and trends within special education.
• Ability to effectively administer special education programs and to work with parents and community groups and agencies.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Effective technological skills.
• Effectively communicates and understands job instructions both verbally and written in the English language.
• Successfully completes the required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

JOB GOAL: Serves as the administrative head of the Special Education Program. Oversees and supervises Child Study Teams, works with school administrators in the development of all Special Education programs, serves as a resource with regards to scheduling, school or class assignments, class load and student placement, as well as Special Education law.

Acts as a liaison for the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendents regarding issues of concern related to Special Education.

DIRECTS THE EFFORTS OF:Special Education Program, Child Study Team Personnel and other Special Educators, Special Education Teacher Coordinator, Special Education Paraprofessionals, and the Special Education staff.
