Principal, Whitney Young Continuation High School

Overview:

Whitney Young Continuation High School is seeking an experienced and skilled Principal to lead our small school setting focused on academic achievement, credit recovery, social-emotional support, and character development. Our school serves approximately 45-60 students annually and is located at 3051 W. 52nd St., Los Angeles, CA 90043. Responsibilities:

The Principal will demonstrate knowledge and experience in alternative education settings and personalized pathways to graduation, with the ability to design and operationalize systems of support, intervention, and student engagement that promote student success and continuous improvement.

The Principal will utilize the Teaching and Learning Framework to provide actionable feedback that strengthens standards-based instruction, teacher effectiveness, and student outcomes. Responsibilities include:

• Monitoring instruction and providing actionable feedback
• Planning and providing professional development to increase instructional outcomes
• Using data to drive change in teaching and learning
• Experience with development of the Master Schedule and Special Education programs
• Building collaborative partnerships with families and community organizations
• Supporting diverse student populations, including English Learners, students with disabilities, foster youth, and housing-insecure youth
• Qualifications:*

The ideal candidate will possess

• A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
• A valid California Administrative Services Credential
• Master's degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
• Five years of successful full-time public school certificated service
• Three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program
• Two years of experience at a middle or senior high school grades 7 through 12
• Experience in a non-classroom leadership position (i.e., Temporary Adviser, Categorical Adviser (0704), Out of Classroom Assignment (0706), or Instructional Coach)
• Teaching and/or counseling experience in a continuation, alternative, or opportunity school
• Bilingual abilities are preferred
