As a Program Specialist on our Benefits, Information and Education (BIE) team, you will use your social service expertise and skills to help older adults, people with disabilities, caregivers and other professionals access the services and resources they need.
You will work directly with consumers and community partners to provide public benefits access, screening and enrollment assistance for older adults and people with disabilities. Actively plan and participate in outreach events and community programs for older adults and people with disabilities and their caregivers.
What are the Specifics (or at least some of them): Work directly with clients to assess their needs, answer questions and provide information on services. You will conduct benefit enrollment screenings and assist with applications.
You will have direct involvement in programs like: Medicare Savings Programs, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Benefits Access Applications (BAA) and Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) counselling. Conduct the research needed to answer and follow up on specific questions or requests. Link clients to available opportunities and services.
Plan, organize and participate in outreach events such as community senior and health fairs to educate and provide assistance to attendees Implement outreach plans and special projects related to benefit assistance Track and report on outreach activities.
Document and highlight client success stories Work directly with clients who contact our Information and Assistance center through various ways (calls, written requests and walk-ins) and send appropriate materials as needed Utilize iCarol and AgingIS, client management system, to provide information and referrals Experience And Skills
A collaborator with education or experience equal to at least (1) year experience in a social services organization or public benefits work. Experience working with older adults or caregivers is a plus.
An organized problem solver with knowledge and experience in senior benefits and resources including (but not limited to) Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, LIHEAP, Medicare Savings Programs, Property tax programs and Extra Help Program A strategic thinker with experience in learning complex programs A communicator who has experience in developing and facilitating formal presentations Spanish speaking a plus AgeOptions is an Equal Opportunity Employer where diversity is celebrated and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all
