Students work one-on-one with university professors to complete original, college credit-bearing research across STEM, social sciences, and humanities. Since 2012, over 3,000 students from 58 countries have participated. Based in the Philadelphia region, the organization has team members working across multiple countries spanning business development, instructional design, and beyond.

The Opportunity

This is a successor role to the organization's current Director of HR & Administration. The HR Director will report directly to her for the first six months before transitioning into a redefined reporting structure aligned with company growth — ultimately working closely with and reporting to the founder.

This role owns the full HR function: recruiting (requisition through onboarding), performance management, career development, compensation, employee relations, benefits administration, and organizational development. The right candidate will bring a start-up mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and the confidence to make recommendations directly to founders and senior leadership.

What You'll Do

• Own full-cycle recruiting for a growing organization, building the company's employer brand to attract top talent
• Lead and manage all core HR disciplines: compensation, organizational development, employee relations, benefits, and performance management
• Partner with senior leadership to align HR strategy with business goals around staffing, recruiting, and retention
• Design and implement policies, processes, and training programs that support compliance and strategic HR needs
• Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment law, updating policies as regulations evolve
• Analyze HRIS/talent management data and reporting to identify organizational trends
• Stay current on HR best practices, technology, and regulatory changes, advising the executive team accordingly

What We're Looking For

• 5–8 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 4 years at a management level or above
• Direct experience working with or reporting to a company founder/owner — either directly or as a close #2 — with comfort making recommendations at that level
• Experience managing the HR function within a small organization (30–100 employees), either as the sole HR person or having built/led a small HR team
• Proven ownership of full-cycle recruiting in a scaling organization
• Demonstrated success upholding high-performance standards across a team and organization
• Agile, adaptable, and energized by a start-up environment
• Currently employed, or able to speak clearly to any employment gaps (no consultants)
• Multi-cultural, multi-national, or global HR experience is a plus, not required
• Open to candidates ready for a step up — e.g., a strong #2 seeking their next move into a Director-level seat
