Assistant Operations Manager — Carolina Overhead Door
About the role
The Assistant Manager supports the Operations Department in daily operations ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable service and installation work. Manage a small team of technicians and coordinators, elevate customer satisfaction, maintain inventory accuracy, and help deliver on revenue and quality goals.
Key responsibilities
- Operations and scheduling
- Coordinate daily routes, job sequencing, and technician assignments for service and install teams.
- Monitor job status, ensure on-time arrivals, and resolve on-site issues by aligning techs, parts, and customer expectations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies; conduct toolbox talks and warehouse/truck checks.
- Team leadership
- Supervise, coach, and assess technicians, installers, and office coordinators; conduct ride-along and quality audits.
- Onboard and train staff on product specs, springing and track basics, safe lifting, and customer communication.
- Approve PTO, and assist with weekly labor and staff planning to hit productivity targets.
- Customer and sales support
- Handle escalations, quotes follow-up, and warranty determinations; ensure timely, professional communication.
- Partner with sales teams on scope, lead times, special-order items, and change orders.
- Track customer satisfaction and first-time-fix rate; implement corrective actions to reduce callbacks or warranty claims.
- Inventory and warehouse control
- Oversee receiving of goods to include putting away stock material and keeping up to date record counts for all stock items.
- Working closely with purchasing to determine what items need to be ordered and when.
- Maintain minimums/maximums; initiate purchase requests; prevent aging of material with proper inventory rotation.
- Ensure equipment readiness (lifts, crimpers, winders, torque tools) and vehicle inspections.
- Quality and process improvement
- Enforce install and service standards; verify measurements, headroom, track type (HL/VL/LHR), and hardware selection for loading and ordering.
- Analyze warranty and rework trends; lead root cause actions on material, method, or training gaps.
- Document Standard Operating Procedures, update job checklists, and improve order-to-cash handoffs.
- Administration and reporting
- Prepare daily/weekly KPIs: revenue, margin, callbacks, safety, on-time completion, inventory accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting, vendor coordination, and approving invoices.
- Support compliance with licensing, permits, and manufacturer warranty requirements.
Qualifications
- 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role in field services, building products, or related trades; garage door industry experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of overhead door systems, including springing, track types, operators, and basic door engineering principles.
- BS Degree in Construction or Business Management (or similar) preferred but not required.
- Strong scheduling, people leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Proficiency with PC/Windows and Microsoft Office; experience with service/dispatch or inventory software is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; able to pass background/drug screening as required.

Physical and work requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 50lbs 80ft, and work with ladders, lifts, and power tools.
- Mix of office, warehouse, and field time; occasional early starts, late finishes, or Saturdays as needed.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
