About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Human Resources Manager to serve as a trusted advisor to firm leadership and employees across all areas of the employee experience. This role combines strategic partnership with hands-on execution and is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys influencing business decisions, enhancing employee engagement, and delivering high-quality HR programs and services.

This role serves as the primary HR resource for our approximately 75-person firm, overseeing all aspects of the employee experience from onboarding through retirement. Reporting to the Firm Administrator, this role ensures HR programs, processes, and services are delivered efficiently while providing exceptional support to attorneys, professional staff, and firm leadership.

This is a hands-on role for an HR professional who enjoys being actively involved in all areas of human resources. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, payroll and benefits administration, compliance, performance management, HR policies and records, and employee support.

The role also partners closely with the Firm Administrator on recruiting, compensation administration, and other people-focused initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

HR Operations & Programs

• Manage the firm's day-to-day human resources operations and ensure the effective delivery of HR programs and services throughout the employee lifecycle.
• Support payroll, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
• Manage employee benefits programs, including enrollments, vendor coordination, annual open enrollment, and ongoing employee support.
• Maintain HRIS data integrity, employee records, HR reporting, and workforce metrics.
• Continuously evaluate and enhance HR processes, systems, and programs to improve efficiency, consistency, compliance, and the overall employee experience.

Talent Management & Employee Experience

• Support recruiting efforts for legal and professional staff positions, including sourcing, interviewing, candidate experience, and onboarding.
• Develop and implement programs that enhance employee engagement, retention, recognition, and overall employee experience.
• Partner with leaders to support performance management and professional development conversations.
• Partner with the Firm Administrator on compensation administration, annual salary review processes, and other confidential HR initiatives.

Employee Relations & Compliance

• Provide guidance and support on employee relations matters, helping managers and employees navigate workplace concerns with professionalism, discretion, and consistency.
• Conduct workplace investigations and manage sensitive employee matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Administer leave programs, including FMLA, COFAMLI, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and other employee leave programs.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws as well as firm policies and practices.
• Review, update, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee documentation.

Strategic Business Partnership

• Partner with firm leadership to support workforce planning, talent management, employee engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
• Serve as the primary HR resource and trusted advisor for attorneys, professional staff, and firm leadership.
• Provide recommendations and solutions that align business objectives with people strategies and best practices.
• Analyze workforce trends and HR metrics to identify opportunities and support informed decision-making.

Qualified candidates will have

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 7-10 years of progressive, hands-on Human Resources experience across multiple HR disciplines.
• Strong working knowledge of employee relations, payroll, benefits administration, employment law, HR compliance, and HR operations.
• Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships with leaders and employees.
• Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Preferred qualifications

• Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR).
• Experience working in a professional services environment, such as a law firm, accounting firm, engineering firm, architecture firm, consulting firm, or similar single-office organization.
• Paylocity experience is a plus.

• Competitive salary of $110,000 to 125,000, based on education and experience
