Retail Accountant - 7 months

Salary: $37 - 38 per hour

Our client, a leading specialty food retailer, is seeking a Retail Accountant to join its Retail Finance team on a contract basis through January, 2027. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role provides accounting, financial reporting, and operational support for the retail business while partnering with cross-functional stakeholders across Finance and Retail Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting (60%)

• Prepare and post month-end journal entries, including expense accruals, credit card statements, and intercompany charge-outs.
• Support the monthly close process, including general ledger review and financial reporting.

Retail Operations Support (40%)

• Reconcile daily sales, cash, gift card, and coupon activity, along with weekly cash logs.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies with Store Managers and Regional Managers.
• Provide financial support to retail stores regarding cash reconciliation, merchant services, banking, and gift card processes.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably within a retail environment.
• Experience with account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
• Knowledge of IFRS accounting principles and retail internal controls.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Progress toward a CPA designation.
