Merchant Acquiring Analyst

Employment Type: (Full Time/Contract)Location: SydneyRole: We are seeking an experienced Merchant Acquiring Analyst to support the delivery of critical enhancements and compliance initiatives across the Core Acquiring Platform. This role will focus on scheme compliance and interchange-related change, ensuring acquiring systems remain aligned to evolving scheme mandates, pricing rules, and operational requirements.

The successful candidate will bring strong business analysis capability, deep knowledge of merchant acquiring, and the ability to translate complex scheme and regulatory updates into clear business and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of scheme compliance updates, including Visa and Mastercard releases.
• Analyse the impact of new interchange rules, pricing changes, and scheme fee disclosure requirements.
• Work closely with compliance, regulatory, product, technology, and operations teams to ensure platform alignment.
• Interpret scheme bulletins and synthesise them into actionable business requirements and delivery outcomes.
• Lead requirements elicitation activities, including workshops, stakeholder interviews, and documentation.
• Take ownership of requirements across the full lifecycle, from discovery through delivery and implementation.
• Produce high-quality artefacts such as:
• Business requirements
• Functional specifications
• Process flows
• Impact assessments
• User stories and acceptance criteria
• Support backlog refinement, sprint planning, and quarterly planning activities within the squad.
• Assist with the documentation, testing, and validation of scheme-related changes.
• Support scheme pre-certification and certification activities where required.
• Collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver cost-effective and compliant solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of analysis practices, delivery processes, and platform outcomes.
• Required Skills & Experience:
• Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in payments or financial services.
• Strong experience in merchant acquiring and acquiring platform change delivery.
• Strong understanding of scheme compliance frameworks across domestic and international schemes.
• Demonstrated experience with interchange pricing models, scheme fees, and related compliance obligations.
• Ability to interpret scheme bulletins, mandates, and regulatory documentation, and convert them into business and system requirements.
• Experience with regulatory reporting and scheme onboarding processes.
• Proven ability to lead requirements workshops and manage stakeholder engagement across business and technology teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess impacts across systems, processes, and operations.
• Experience supporting testing, implementation, and certification activities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
