Position Overview

ComtecNova Group is seeking an experienced Business Development Director to drive new business growth across the North American HVAC controls market.

The role will focus on identifying and developing strategic opportunities with HVAC equipment manufacturers, smart-building technology providers, property-technology companies, distributors, and other adjacent-market partners.

The successful candidate will build senior-level relationships, uncover customer needs, coordinate technical and commercial resources, and convert opportunities into long-term OEM, ODM, JDM, and platform partnerships.

This is a hands-on business development role requiring strong industry relationships, technical curiosity, and the ability to build new markets from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

• New Business Development
• Develop and execute a North American business development strategy aligned with Comtec
• Nova’s growth objectives.
• Identify and pursue new HVAC OEM, ODM, JDM, smart-building, multifamily, PropTech, and connected-controls opportunities.
• Build and manage a qualified pipeline of strategic target accounts.
• Secure customer meetings, RFQs, product evaluations, pilot programs, design wins, and long-term supply agreements.
• Develop opportunities with major HVAC brands, regional manufacturers, technology partners, distributors, and property-management ecosystems.
• Strategic Account Engagement
• Build relationships with customer executives, engineering leaders, product managers, strategic planners, and sourcing teams.
• Engage customers early in their product-development and technology-planning cycles.
• Understand customer pain points, product roadmaps, technical requirements, and commercialization plans.
• Position Comtec
• Nova as a strategic HVAC controls and connected-platform partner rather than only a contract manufacturer.
• Solution Development
• Work closely with product management, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and program management teams to develop customer solutions.
• Translate customer requirements into clear commercial and technical opportunities.
• Coordinate product demonstrations, proposals, business cases, pricing strategies, and customer presentations.
• Promote Comtec
• Nova’s capabilities in thermostats, HVAC controls, connectivity, embedded software, cloud integration, sensors, and scalable manufacturing.
• Market Development
• Track market trends, competitors, emerging technologies, customer investments, and regulatory developments.
• Identify adjacent growth opportunities in multifamily housing, senior living, hospitality, energy management, utilities, and smart buildings.
• Develop strategic partnerships with PropTech, IoT, software, and building-automation companies.
• Represent Comtec
• Nova at industry events, customer meetings, conferences, and trade associations.
• Commercial Management
• Maintain accurate opportunity, pipeline, forecast, and customer activity information in the CRM.Develop account plans and measurable pursuit strategies for priority opportunities.
• Support commercial negotiations, contracts, forecasts, and new-product-launch planning.
• Provide regular updates to leadership on pipeline health, market feedback, risks, and required decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, marketing, or a related field.
• Approximately 8–12 years of business development, strategic sales, product, or account-management experience.
• Experience in HVAC, building controls, thermostats, IoT, smart buildings, electronics, OEM manufacturing, or a related industry.
• Demonstrated success opening new accounts and converting complex opportunities into commercial business.
• Ability to engage effectively with engineering, product, operational, sourcing, and executive stakeholders.
• Strong commercial, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Comfortable working across global engineering and manufacturing organizations.
• Willingness to travel regularly throughout North America and occasionally internationally.
• Ability to work from the Dallas-area office when not traveling.

Preferred Experience

Existing relationships with HVAC OEMs, distributors, PropTech companies, utilities, or smart-building providers.

Experience selling technically complex products or platforms with long development and sales cycles.

Understanding of OEM, ODM, JDM, private-label, and contract-manufacturing business models.

Familiarity with connected thermostats, embedded controls, HVAC communication protocols, cloud platforms, APIs, or energy-management solutions.
