Position Overview

The Director of Business Development will lead strategic growth initiatives for a trucking-focused 3PL organization, driving revenue and expanding market share. This role will focus on identifying new business opportunities, building strong client relationships, and collaborating with internal teams to deliver innovative logistics solutions.

The position requires a results-driven leader with a strong understanding of transportation and logistics services.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with company goals and market opportunities in trucking and 3PL services.
• Identify, pursue, and secure new customers and strategic accounts, including shippers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.
• Build and manage a robust pipeline of opportunities, ensuring accurate forecasting and consistent revenue growth.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the business development and sales team, establishing clear goals, KPIs, and performance standards.
• Negotiate complex contracts and pricing agreements that balance competitiveness, profitability, and long-term relationship value.
• Collaborate with Operations, Pricing, Finance, and Customer Service to ensure solutions are operationally feasible and deliver on customer expectations.
• Required Experience/

Skills

• 10+ years of progressive experience in business development, sales, or commercial leadership within trucking, transportation, or 3PL.Proven track record of developing and closing large, complex deals and achieving aggressive growth targets.
• Strong understanding of truckload, LTL, dedicated fleets, brokerage, and asset/non-asset-based logistics models.
• Demonstrated experience leading and scaling high-performing commercial teams.
• Exceptional negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities, with experience using CRM and sales analytics tools.
• Preferred Experience/

Skills

• MBA or advanced degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
• Experience with enterprise-level clients and national account management.
• Familiarity with emerging logistics technologies and digital freight platforms.
• Ability to represent the company at industry events and conferences.
• Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field required.MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
• Ongoing professional development in sales leadership or logistics strategy is a plus.
